2020-2021 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Liddel is getting into a bad habit of falling away rather than going straight up when taking a jump shot.. and the balls are hitting the front of the rim just short
His shot has been a bit off as of late. But this past weekend, going four straight games with 300+ pound 7-footers (even the backups) riding on your back and banging you every step of the way has got to wear a person down. I think more than anything by Sunday he was just plain exhausted. I'm amazed he played as well as he did.

I'm not a basketball coach, but the "fade away" shot is a shot that is coached.....

I'm not 100% sure it was a "bad habit", I'm guessing that it could be on purpose. Maybe the 6'7" Liddell is just trying to distance himself from a much taller defender to prevent his shot from being blocked. Four games in 4 days; also for whatever reason, I was under the belief that shots hitting the front of the rim can be attributed to or be a sign of "tired legs" too.

Yes, he was 0-7 yesterday on 3-pointers, with almost all of them hitting the front of the rim. Fading away inside to shoot over a big is fine, and EJ normally does that well. I think it was just being worn down that made him struggle with the long ball, and he should be fine in the tournament.

Back in the day, were taught to aim for the back of the rim late in the half, as being tired, would come up short. Methinks that those missed threes were caused by not getting lift from the tired legs. BTW, EJ's 6'8" stature calls for a fadeaway being guarded by a 6'10" center with 38" arms and alot of arc. Just sayin'.....Go Bucks!

Last 3 days he had the 7'4" kid from Purdue, Dickenson from TTUN, and Cockburn from Illinois, and no Kyle Young to take some of that wear and tear.

No surprise at all that fatigue would set in, especially in the second overtime game in those 4 days.

EJ won't have to deal with that sort of defensive challenge - in consecutive days - in the tourney.

Fade against a 7 footer is understandable but if you re-watch, he's doing it against smaller folks around the foul line... in a couple cases vs small guards..

I also understand the fade can be taught but you'd have seen it much more often this year if it was part of his game.. the hitting the front of the rim is what led me to wonder...

Seems it's kinda recent thing... @calibuck could be right on...with tired legs... but if I was Coach's Mom... I'd text him to look at it

This is his normal .. he's not fading/leaning back

Buckeyes bench can be NCAA Tournament factor
With guard CJ Walker becoming the primary scorer off the bench and Seth Towns finding some offense in spurts, the Buckeyes can rely on the reserves helping out in any given game.
That’s a good sign for a deep tournament run.

Duane Washington can carry Buckeyes deep into March
“Any day, I feel like Duane brings the same energy every single time,” All-Big Ten forward E.J. Liddell said. “[Against Michigan], we needed him big, huge. That’s why he’s a big-time player. I have nothing but respect for Duane, and I’m so happy I’m able to play with him.”

Ohio State needs better late-game management

Those late-game blown leads cannot happen in the NCAA Tournament. Sure, the Buckeyes won all three of those games. But they may not be so lucky in the Big Dance. If this team is going to make a deep run over the next two weekends, it needs to be better at closing out games and putting teams away.

Confident Buckeyes can advance deep into NCAA Tournament

“Every game is a challenge in the tournament. There are no easy ones. So I think it was important for us to play well. Some of the halves were some of the best halves of our season. I think we can build on that.”

I like where this team is at heading into the tournament. I think Liddell is going to bounce back and have some big games. Having to be a de facto center against Purdue, ttun & Illinois in a row, who all have legitimate big men, is a lot to ask out of him. I think he was tired from having to do that and that's why you saw the missed shots & uncharacteristic turnovers. If Washington can play anywhere close to how he played in B1G tourney I think they can make a run.

Guess it shows that Chris gots to pay attention to Momma! One reason that the fadeaway isn't really taught, is that it takes a step away from going after the rebound, should one be a bit errant with his shot....Go Bucks! Got 'em in the Elite 8, losing to Baylor in OT.

I feel like OSU needs to get to the Sweet 16 to meet expectations for this season. If they don't get at least that far, it will be a big disappointment. Especially since OSU hasn't made the S16 in 8 years now & they have a golden opportunity.

Six men's basketball players were among them. Justin Ahrens (hospitality management), Jansen Davidson (finance), Harrison Hookfin (biology), Musa Jallow (applied clinical & preclinical research), Justice Sueing (psychology) and Kyle Young (kinesiology) earned the honors. A year ago, Young, Jallow and Hookfin were among the 94 winter academic all-conference honorees, too.

Cool guessing game from 11W:

Red zones are more efficient than average, while blue zones are below average. The larger the zone, the more attempts taken from that spot.

Guess the player based on his shots, example:

PLAYER 1:

This guy does most of his work in the paint, but has shown some proficiency as a shooter from 3-point range, and will occasionally pop a mid-range jumper on the wings. He spends almost no time in the corners, however.

Correct answers:

  1. E.J. Liddell
  2. Zed Key
  3. Duane Washington
  4. Justin Ahrens
  5. CJ Walker
  6. Musa Jallow
  7. Justice Sueing
  8. Kyle Young

How many did you get right?
