2020-2021 College Basketball Discussion (Official Thread)

Something has to be done about the refs being the show in the Big Ten
The one call that really bothers me is when the offensive player initiates the contact and the defender gets called for the foul. I cannot count the number of times Kyle Young has been called for a blocking foul when the offensive player has initiated the contact. That is only one player and one example but it happens way too much throughout college basketball and not just in the Big Ten.

46 combined fouls in the IU/Illinois game. This tipped off around 9:10 ET and it’s now 11:25 with the final 42 seconds to play in a tied game.

Something has to be done about the refs being the show in the Big Ten. Somehow the NBA has managed to allow contact and the game of basketball has survived (even thrived if I’m being honest with the level play in today’s game).

This shit is so awful. For all sides, participants and fans. No one wants this. And good luck to these Big Ten teams in the tournament when other conferences are on the call.

edit- foul 47 on the Illini inbound. Love to watch college kids shoot FTs for 2.5 hours.

OT...of course.

I should of went to bed when overtime started but nope I was stupid and watched it all and was half asleep at work all day today. OT was horrible by the way. Neither team could score.

Kentucky lost again tonight surprise surprise.....

I wasn't even nervous tonight at the end of the game like I used to be to start the year and all the past years...you know why ? Because win or lose it just didn't matter so nothing to be nervous about.

That is the worst kind of feeling to have. Every year before this year and even to start this year up until the Georgia loss a loss made me sick to my stomach............since then I have felt nothing.

I rather feel sick to my stomach after a loss than this who care's feeling because that means the games actually mean something.

Right now these games are totally meaningless for the first time since I can remember for Kentucky basketball.

Thank god I am not someone who only cares about 1 team like in football I care only about Ohio State and no other team at all.

Ohio State, Xavier and Cleveland State still make me tick and it is about as shocking as ever that a Cleveland State game means more to me than a Kentucky game this time of the year. Last time that happened was 2009 when CSU made the tournament and Kentucky did not.

Pretty sure tomorrow night at Iowa I will get plenty of chances to have my stomach doing flips inside win or lose.

Keyontae Johnson update: medically induced coma today. Gut-wrenching to think about.

Preseason conference player of the year. He had just finished an ally-oop. Awful for someone so young. Hope the doctors and kid pull through.

Florida forward Keyontae Johnson's collapse unrelated to COVID-19, family says

Florida forward Keyontae Johnson's collapse during a game two months ago was "not related to or a result of a previous or current" COVID-19 diagnosis, his family said in a statement Wednesday.

Johnson was rushed to a local hospital on Dec. 12 after falling face-first onto the court following a timeout in the first half of a game against Florida State in Tallahassee. He was listed in critical but stable condition, school officials said, before being airlifted to a hospital in Gainesville days later with his mother by his side, where he slowly recovered and started to communicate with his family and friends in the days that followed.

Like most of his teammates, Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 during the summer. The coronavirus can lead to myocarditis, a viral infection of the heart muscle.

"University of Florida Health treating physicians consulted with other local and national experts who reviewed the relevant imaging and testing related to this case," the family's statement said. "The unanimous conclusion of all experts is that Keyontae's medical emergency was not related to or a result of a previous or current Covid diagnosis."

"We continue to be committed to sharing any information that could be helpful to others. Our hope is that the experts' conclusion that this instance is not Covid-related will bring some peace of mind," the family's statement read. "Our focus now is on Keyontae's academics and continued recovery. His resilience has been inspiring to watch. He will spend the rest of the season focused on being the best coach and teammate he can be. What comes next for Keyontae is for him to share on his own timeline."

Just sayin': The good news is that he's recovering. etc.

Bracketology 2021: We finally have a new No. 1 seed!

On Tuesday, Ohio State took its place on this projection’s No. 2 seed line. But thanks to the combination of the Buckeyes’ Thursday win at Iowa (who remains on the two line) and midweek losses by former No. 1 seed Villanova and a pair of twos in Texas (to Baylor) and Houston (to East Carolina), Chris Holtmann’s team is now the fourth No. 1 seed.
