Ohio State was one of two Big Ten teams to earn the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches has been handing out Team Academic Excellence Awards for seven years, and Ohio State men's basketball earned its second consecutive honor.

To receive the award, a team must record a team GPA of at least 3.0.

The Buckeyes were led by guard Joey Lane, who was honored by the Big Ten as a 2018019 Distinguished Scholar. To qualify for the distinguished honor, a player must record at least a 3.7 GPA the year before.

The only other Big Ten team to earn the award in 2018-19 was Northwestern. This was Ohio State's second time making the list, which corresponds with the two seasons that Chris Holtmann has been the head coach of the Buckeyes.

Ohio State begins its 2019-20 season at home against Cincinnati in early-November.

Ohio State basketball to add Kent State to 2019 non-conference slate, per report
The Buckeyes will get an in-state opponent on the schedule.

Chris Holtmann and company already have a few marquee matches on the non-conference front, as a Gavitt Games meeting with Villanova, and an ACC-Big Ten Challenge meeting with North Carolina will be early season tests. And on Dec. 21, the CBS Sports Classic brings Ohio State and Kentucky together for a game at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Buckeyes finished last season 20-15, reaching the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. In each of Holtmann’s first two seasons at the helm of the program, the Bucks have been invited to the Big Dance, but haven’t been able to reach the Sweet 16.

This year could be different, as a stellar 2019 recruiting class featuring DJ Carton, EJ Liddell, Alonzo Gaffney and Ibrahima Diallo are set to debut in the Scarlet and Gray.

Plus, kids probably only care about the last 5 years...if that.

KenPom only goes back to 2002 as far as the page that lists yearly rankings. I am surprised he was able to go back past that at all since he doesn't list the rankings for anything older than that.
