2019-2020 B1G Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

fortunately, ttun will lose simpson and teske to graduation. very good chance livers departs, too, if he continues playing as well as he has. we should see very quickly how much of this season is because of beilein and yaklich. it's kind of like osu 2017-18 with kbd, tate, and even williams. we learned the following year that the coaching carried over.
All of their players this year are Beilein recruits, and it wont be until 2022-23 that we will really know for sure what kind of team building skills Howard has.

it doesn't take nearly as long in basketball to gauge a new coach's abilities. unlike football, roster turnover is much more rapid and coaching philosophies are instituted much more quickly. hardly anyone on next year's ttun team will have played any meaningful minutes under beilein.

It is Belein's eye for talent and roster building that was his best strength, IMO. That will have a lasting impact on their program. They may still have a core of DeJulius, Brooks, Livers, Wagner, Johns & Castleton next year, which would still be a pretty solid head start for Howard even in Year 2.

You're right that a new coach can make their recruiting impact felt quickly - especially if they pay as much as Calipari - but that doesn't happen for most new coaches.

i'd put beilein's player development at least on par with his eye for talent. doesn't really matter much if you can spot unheralded talent without developing it. neither mo wagner nor levert did anything as a freshman. teske was a non-factor as a freshman and sophomore.

also, i'm not assuming that livers will be back. through the gonzaga game, he's averaging 17 points on 51% shooting behind the arc. and he's a junior. guys like that tend not to stick around for a senior season, especially when their top teammates will be leaving. if simpson and/or teske were returning, maybe i'd see it.
