2018 Week 6 CFB Open Thread

So the takeaway last night is anyone who thought we’d make the playoffs with a loss was delusional, because ND and Clemson ain’t losing to anyone left on their schedules. So when GA and BAMA are undefeated heading into the SEC title game, we had best have a 0

People keep ripping Notre Dame’s schedule — and rightfully so; however, that game against Cuse in Yankee stadium might be dangerous.

Some mid season thoughts on CFB landscape by Conference:

B1G
  • OSU has the best win of any top 10 team over PSU. They also have the best opportunity for quality wins left with tsun and Wisky.
  • Wisky back in the top 10 despite BYU loss. They have some quality opponents left but I don't think anyone takes them seriously for the CFP.
SEC:
  • Bama really only has LSU and SEC CG opponent left to play anyone with a pulse. Their SOS took a hit with Auburn dropping.
  • UGA has a legit schedule in front of them. at LSU, vs UF, at UK, vs Auburn then SEC CG
B12:
  • WVU is undefeated but see my comments on Wisky, no one takes them seriously
  • OU remaining schedule has @ WVU last week of the year
  • problem could be that game being played then rematched the following week in the B12 CCG
Pac 12
  • UW is only hope of CFP for conference and they already have 1 loss and not much SOS opportunity left

ACC
  • Clemson sitting pretty unless somehow penalized for soft schedule
ND and others
  • same as Clemson for ND
  • UCF sneaking up the polls undefeated

B1G team has to be undefeated to make it. If it's OSU, with their schedule and any semblance of objectivity by the committee, then they should be no worse than 2 seed if not the #1 seed.

Clemson and ND are likely in because it will take a massive upset for them to get a loss

SEC: most likely is Bama runs the table and is #1 seed. Chaos theory is what happens if a 1 loss UGA knocks Bama off in the SEC CG and you have 3 undefeated teams in, say, OSU Clemson and ND?

B12 and Pac12: need loads of help. Most likely outside looking in at the halfway mark.

Lots of football to be played so this will likely be worth a good laugh in December but what the hell.

If chaos happens like you predict then Bama's out. I don't see how they'd get in. Their SOS would somehow probably be worse than last year and there's no two loss team with an UGLY loss like Ohio State jockeying for position. Notre Dame would be undefeated and have a better SOS. Clemson's SOS would probably be comparable to Bama but they'd have one less loss. Ohio State would clearly be in and no way Bama goes ahead of Georgia unless something happens like Tua gets injured on the first play and Bama loses a close one. Even then I don't see it.

Agreed.

Seems like most seasons they have to tie break a slew of 1 loss teams. Looking at schedules, this could be the year when a bunch of undefeated teams actually works in favor of a more well rounded (and less SEC flavored) playoff.

Agree with everything... but i dont think all the undefeateds will make it. Upsets happen with young men.
Hopefully we're not the one to trip up.
I think Georgia has a tough slate ahead and could end with 2 losses. What if a 2 loss Georgia beats Bama - whose played nobody all year ?
The ESPN spin goes into full effect to make the case for at least one of them.

I would laugh my ass off if West Virginia goes undefeated in your scenario above.
