2018 Way-Too-Early College Football Polls

Way too early point spread too:

OHIO STATE OPENS AS 31-POINT FAVORITE AGAINST OREGON STATE

Oregon State rolls into Columbus on Sept. 1st to open its 2018 campaign against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Beavers, who finished 2017 with a 1-11 record (0-9 in Pac-12 play), will be heavy underdogs.

Costa Rica-based sportsbook 5Dimes currently lists Oregon State as a 31-point underdog.

My way too early playoff bracket in no particular order.

Ohio State
Miami
Bryce Love...err Stanford
Stupid SEC team

Committee was just 'validated' twice for putting two sec teams in (non-sec champ won it all, and the ratings were good). Since they won on both accounts there will be two sec teams in again.

Miami's back, lol. Clemson isn't going to loose to them any time soon.

GET DUMPED THEN, PENN STATE. The Worldwide Leader crunched college football numbers and labeled Ohio State as the No. 4 team entering the 2018 season (behind Clemson, Alabama, and Georgia but ahead of Notre Dame).

Their oracles say Ohio State will be favored to win every game in 2018, except the one that occurs in Happy Valley.

From espn.com (via thespun.com):

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.

Polls are entirely meaningless. Not that Ohio State was truly playoff worthy, but so long as the beauty pageant rewards teams that don't even win their division much less conference there's really no point in following polls/opinions or anything else. It's clearly not about rewarding teams but rather whatever ESPN thinks they can sell.

Other than Ohio State games I won't be watching any college football this year. Mostly because I won't have the time but also because fuck ESPN.

Buckeyes projected in College Football Playoff

The Sporting News made its (still early) bowl projections for the 2018 season this week, and the outlet thinks Ohio State will return to the College Football Playoff. Bill Bender of Sporting News has Ohio State in a familiar bowl game against a familiar opponent. Bender projects Ohio State will face Clemson in the Cotton Bowl in one of the CFP semifinals. Bender predicts Alabama against Oklahoma in the other semifinal with Clemson and the Crimson Tide meeting in the title game.
