2018 tOSU Offense Discussion

Thats why I hope its Burrow this season actually and then Haskins takes over with one to go for Tate. I love the fact that Burrow doesnt turn the ball over and he's extremely efficient. With the skill players we have, just facilitate and watch the scoreboard light up.

We don't need 4 and 5 year starters here because we recruit so much talent. One season in this offense is also enough to make it to the league

Shoot... Cardale could've gone after just 3 games. Arguably lost money coming back... it's insane.

I feel great about whoever comes out on top of this QB competition... I feel great about all 3 of them ... don't envy Urban's job picking one guy to be the starter.

I don't care how fantastic Haskins is throwing the ball... this is a running offense. When we don't run the ball we lose its literally that simple.

So next year with 4 returning starters up front and two of the best backs in the big ten we should have no excuses if we don't run the ball 60-65% of the time. Besides Haskins will be INFINITELY better if it's off play action and in opportune moments (like 2nd and short).

A good template would be Georgia from this year. They could care less about being balanced they play the cards they were delt.

I have a feeling there will be 1 game (and probably our only loss) where we get over confident in Haskins and decide to throw the ball 40 times. Make no mistake though this team has all the pieces to be a physical juggernaut next year.

I agree 100% with you. I've noticed in games we rush for somewhere around 200+ as a team we usually wins those games and rarely lose them. I'd be happy to see them get back to running the ball more. I like the comparison to Georgia's offense. I think the potential to be that (with better receivers IMO) is there. Watching the way Georgia ran at will against Oklahoma last week was incredible to watch and really what the game plan should have been back in September.

Georgia has proven that you can run the ball 70% of the time roughly and pound teams into submission. I hate this infatuation we have with "being balanced" or "250 and 250"... No, you just accentuate your strengths which has always been our running game.

Play to your strengths and it'll be hard to beat us.. When we step out of our element willingly in pursuit of a stupid number like 250/250 that's when you put yourself in a close game (or lose) when you shouldn't have had to.

I'm predicting that this is the "key" to Ohio State's offensive success next year. With a new QB, a strong running game will be essential. Basically Mike Weber was as good a running back in 2016 as JK Dobbins was in 2017. Since Chubb and Micheal (@Georgia) are seniors, together Weber & Dobbins should be as good a pair of running backs as there will be in 2018.

exactly and there should be zero excuses this upcoming season if we have a loss where the backs combine for 15 carries and Haskins throws 35+ times... We went full air raid vs Iowa and I think it's because the offensive staff felt like we could do that due to JT's performance in the PED game.

I don't care if Haskins goes 20-20 for 450 yards... never go away from run first. Particularly if we're throwing picks like they're free tshirts into a crowd

Georgia!? Saban and Bama have built a dynasty doing just that. And Wisconsin has done a poor man's version of it for years. Wisconsin is like a Toyota Camry and Bama is the Lexus LS. Osu can certainly fit their offense to the same strengths, and honestly should've done that this year after the OU loss. I'd put Dobbins and Weber up against any tandem of RBs in the country, and I'd put this year's O line in the same vein. Next year's shouldn't fall off much in the run game and that should only help the next QB starter (I'm personally hoping for Haskins)

Ah not sure Alabama is quite as unbalanced as Georgia but yes like Bama too..

I just don't like hearing about having a goal in mind for 250 and 250. Just do what works and then work off that.

Do what we do well and it'll normally work out. Stray from it and we will struggle
