2018 tOSU Defense Discussion

Everytime I wanted to say the LB's looked better playing their natural position depth the defense as a whole would do something else.

White was a godsend but why a kid who can obviously take god angles and tackle has been sitting this long (and would still have been today if not for targeting and injuries) makes me doubt this defensive staff even more.

At this point I say clean house (except LJS obviously) in the of season. It won't happen but this is the watershed year where Meyer is going to have to decide between his personal loyalty to assistants and his job imo.

I'm questioning everything now. I'm wary of getting rid of Grinch because we have no clue how much input he has in game planning. Taver I can't believe is all of a sudden a bad DB coach after helping Tress field some stingy defenses. Maybe he is. Who knows?

You want a coach fired after one bad year? I'm sorry but it's not gonna happen. Nor should it. Davis should be fired. Meyer should go off on whoever kept putting Werner on Speilman like it was a good idea but he's not gonna fire Schiano for this even if he' being subborn.

The 2013 defense allowed 22.6 ppg amd 374.6 ypg.

The 2017 defense is allowing 23.5 ppg and 394 ypg.

Statistically, 2018 is worse and it seems to actually be getting worse as.the year goes on. If Nebraska didn't commit several unforced errors, they probably would have went well over 500 yards and 40 points.

The 2018 defense is the worst I've ever seen in Columbus, and also (if you believe the recruiting rankings) the most talented. So, unless all of these 4 and 5 star kids were grossly overrated, we have a serious problem with the coaching. Things like that cannot fester at a program with the expectations at Ohio State. Heads (multiple) need to roll in January.

Another thing I noticed is Landers obviously still not 100% is not nearly as explosive with his first step. This leaves an undersized interior DL without his usual elite quickness to compensate for his lack of size and he's getting mauled.

Meanwhile, the 3 stud DT's recruited this year all sit while looking good early in the season. Then we see White obviously a much more natural safety than Pryor.

I'm wondering what coaches are using as the criteria for PT and if maybe the players don't feel like the best players are actually playing?

Could partially explain this gnawing sense that this team is highly disinterested.

Absolutely. Not being able to do this all year is ridiculous.

Davis and maybe Johnson too. Grinch needs one more year after showing potential at WSU. No idea what he was doing with White on the bench. Switch Fuller back to his natural position and keep White in there.

I agree. Besides LJ the rest can go because like you said if we cant see that Brendan White should be on the field in practice then what are we doing?

To be this bad with the talent we have is a joke.

I thought the young DTs looked overmatched and not ready early in the year.
