Some of this depends how likely they are to win any of the big DB free agents (Butler, Joyner, Melvin) combined with backing themselves into a corner with previous bad decisions. We can't get everything this year and Gregg Williams already fucked up taking Peppers. The CB situation goes back to Haden salary fuckup and some retard thinking Gilbert was any good. I'm betting Butler costs a lot more than $11mil too -_-
It's very frustrating to think we could still have Haden and drafted Hooker last year. Our secondary would have a great basis... it keeps coming back that this team is awful because of awful draft picks more than anything else. And now we're talking ourselves out of the most NFL ready QB we'll see anytime soon.
Similar story with pass rushers. Garrett, Ogbah, Nassib, Shelton are all recent 1/2/3 picks. Can we keep throwing picks at the DLine? Or could they be made serviceable while expending picks in areas even worse off? Though it's a similar story with WR too. After spending 9000 picks on aspiring journeyman WRs and another big fat miss on an extremely over-rated BXII athlete... it's another shitfest. Our only weapon is a pothead that can't help himself.
If we're taking a QB, we also need to preempt OL attrition sooner than later. Joe Thomas isn't immortal.
My guess is, it takes at least 3 decent drafts to make a team competitive. Not every pick needs to be a homerun, but can't recover from complete flops like Manziel, Gabriel, Coleman, Peppers, etc. either.
