2018-2019 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Well, I am done trying to guess what their Big Ten regular-season record is going to be after yesterday. I think they will have some problems on the road but all Big Ten teams do so we should win all of our home games, except maybe Sparty, and probably lose most of our road games. How many they lose I have no idea especially the way they are playing the first half of games. That is not going to cut it when they hit conference play especially on the road.

Yeah. I don't know. Really glad that our non-con results are what they are so far and hopefully we finish that up with a win against High Point. I think there is a slight bit of fool's gold effect happening just because the coin toss went our way in early season 50/50 match-ups at UC and Creighton where teams were still figuring themselves out, and then UCLA is nowhere near as good as they should be (boy, the Bruins are young--their frontcourt and their bench is like all freshmen, then you have sophs Hands and Wilkes and junior Ali). Other than that we managed to win the games we should win, even though it's been ugly at times (and sometimes exceptionally ugly, like that first half against YSU). A talented but not all that great Cuse team sort of dominated us on our own court.

We're off to a 2-0 start in B1G play and that Minny game was one of our most complete games this season, but it was a home game and Minny is poorly coached. Then we get a very ugly win on the road against a 4-8 Illinois team (and it wasn't even on their home court). Holtmann's right, this team ain't going to get the equivalent of last year's 15-3 in conference, partly because we lack that guy in KBD but also because the B1G is stronger top to bottom this season. I don't feel confident predicting us to win many of our road games (fortunately one of those is already in the W column); then again, we played a couple of our better games this season at UC and at Creighton, so there might be something said for this team feeding off the energy of an electric environment (unlike the Schott has been this season) even if the energy is against them. I think the MSU game coming up will be very telling; will OSU fans actually show up for the game and bring the energy, and also how will this team fare against what's probably the first legit T20 team they will have played this season.

So much for the AP poll which has us ranked #13 this week ahead of #15 Wisconsin #23 Indiana #24 Iowa. Nebraska and Purdue received votes but are not even ranked. That is just silly because I do not think we are that good. I guess it is early but I think that ranking is way too high for us. ttun still #1 and Sparty is #8.

yeah, our ranking is one that i'd certainly sell right now. there are at least 5 teams ranked from 14th to 25th that i'd pick to beat us on a neutral court.

Yeah, it is at or near the high water mark now. Personally, among B1G teams, I would rate OSU behind UM, MSU, and Nebraska, and on par with IU and Wisconsin. I dont feel any of the other 8 B1G teams are legit top-25 quality. I would guess OSU finishes 4th or 5th.

Then again with Holtmann on the sideline it wouldn't be smart to bet against the Bucks because you just never know...the guy is a stud coach and quite frankly I wouldn't be surprised if the nba came calling eventually. Lets hope for our sake that it is quite far down the road.

Last year I thought Michigan State and Purdue would beat us by 20. With Holt at the helm I'll never count out the Buckeyes.

To me there are 4 games OSU should lose, @ Nebraska, @ UM, @ IU, and @ MSU. I feel there are probably 8 games left they should win. Then there are about 6 swing games, including vs MSU on Saturday. If they beat MSU at the Schott, there is a real chance of going 10-0 in conference home games.

The Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team (12-1, 2-0) won their only game of the previous week 82-64 over the High Point Panthers, yet, when the latest AP Poll was released on Monday, they slid back a spot to No. 14. The Kentucky Wildcats (10-2) — who had been ranked No. 16 — beat the Louisville Cardinals (9-4) 71-58 last week, and that was apparently enough to move them ahead of the Buckeyes for 13th overall.

The top five remained the same as last week with No. 1 Duke, No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Tennessee, No. 4 Virginia, and No. 5 Kansas. In fact, the top 12 were the exact same as the previous week.

In addition to OSU and Michigan, the Big Ten is also represented in the Top 25 by No. 8 Michigan State, No. 21 Indiana, No. 22 Wisconsin, No. 24 Nebraska, and No. 25 Iowa. Purdue is also receiving votes.

The No. 14 Buckeyes will take on the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Value City Arena at 12 p.m. ET to tip off the bulk of their Big Ten schedule. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
