2017 tOSU Offense Discussion

He didn't have that kind of burst for most of the season. He still had the power but would have been run down after 20 yards on those runs.
No offense but mike just didn't all the sudden become fast in one week. It's always been there we just haven't given these backs the opportunity to take over a game until this past week.

That's exactly what both can do. I hope we get one more year of Mike because they'll be tough to stop next year with all the WRS returning and 4 returning starters on the oline (counting getting Bowen back).

I like this year's team but IMO next year's offense looks pretty filthy.

You clearly haven't been watching since the beginning of the season or don't understand what you are watching. Weber didn't suddenly go from slow to fast he went from having a gimpy hammy to it clearly being much better. Not only that but hamstring injuries aren't things you generally come back from full speed right away they tend to linger sometimes being reaggrivated all season. He wouldn't have housed that against Oklahoma because he wasn't fully healthy. He might not have housed it against Penn St or even Iowa. It was clear yesterday he had a burst he hadn't shown all year.

I thought I could say what I wanted since I said "no offense"... dammit I should've said with all due respect.

29 pure run plays called yesterday which was more then the past two weeks combined. I understand hamstrings injuries but it isn't going to just all sudden be awesome in one week time.

No this was a directive to call tailback runs and we saw what happens when we do that. UFM said as such post game

Oh sure I was a run based focus. I was just saying the Weber of yesterday was not the Weber of earlier in the season. If Dobbins had got those carries instead earlier in the year he would've housed them as well. It was a clear we will run the football directive. Though JT's interceptions probably contributed a bit.

Where did you get that number? NO way we had 29 pure run plays from what I watched. I would have to go back and count but the over whelming majority were RPOs where JT was giving. We ran a couple of draws and a couple of power off tackle plays but most were options.

Seemed like a great number where no one would question me... you sir have passed the test.

Honestly I heard it yesterday in the game so who the he'll knows if they were right

Running predictably with the QB on every play won't work(like in 2015). If we can get the ball in the hands of Dobbins and Weber(heck, even Campbell) and actually make in game adjustments, we can beat Sparty(like we could've/should've beaten Iowa). We must be the team imposing their wills

2015 was just the opposite...we had a dominate ground attack and horrible QB play, and the play calling didn't adjust until it was too late.

OHIO STATE'S OFFENSIVE LINE HAS QUIETLY EXCELLED IN 2017

87909_h_0.jpg

It’s usually a good thing when an offensive line isn’t being talked about much.

That’s been the case for Ohio State’s offensive line this season.

While Ohio State’s defensive line and running backs have been hyped, and just about every other Ohio State unit has drawn consternation from Buckeyes fans, the play of Ohio State’s offensive line has seemingly flown under the radar.

Ohio State’s offensive line deserves more attention, though, because it has quietly been one of the Buckeyes’ biggest strengths this year.

The strength of Ohio State’s offensive line was never more clear than it was on Saturday against Michigan State, when the front five did not allow a single sack while leading the way for the Buckeyes to run for 335 yards, against a defense that had held opponents to 87 rushing yards per game and averaged more than 2.4 sacks per game in its first nine games.

While Mike Weber was named Big Ten co-offensive player of the week for rushing for 162 yards, and J.K. Dobbins also rightfully earned praise after running for 128 yards, Ohio State’s offensive line played just as much of a role, if not the biggest role, in the success of the Buckeyes’ ground game.

To see examples of that, you can look at Weber’s two touchdown runs from Saturday’s game. On his first, from 47 yards out, Ohio State center Billy Price picked up blocks on two separate defenders – while left guard Michael Jordan, right guard Demetrius Knox and right tackle Isaiah Prince also handled their men – to spring Weber into open space up the middle, allowing him to use his speed to do the rest of the work.

We have proven we can do both... but IMO we are somewhere in between or other wise balanced.

We should always lean on the run though because I don't think there's a team out there that can shut down our run game on 4 straight plays. Let a lone a drive
