Came to post this same thing. Awesome breakdown by Chip- that is a man that knows offense.

On Kevin Wilson- that game showed the world of difference in having an experienced gamecaller. So many other teams would have panicked due to the scoreboard, but at no point did it seem like the game plan itself was failing. Wilson stuck to it, adapting as the game went on. He stayed calm while I'm sure everyone else was freaking tf out (somewhat understandably). This is what a head coach does, understanding the entirety of the game/units at play during the game, but using his skills to realize he had the right cards on the offensive side all along.

The redzone woes could be solved with some more RB touches. There is no point to go horizontal when everyone is within 15 yards of LOS in the RZ. So the RB swings and WR screens were probably 3-5 too many as I quickly re-watch, but then we end up with Johnny Dixon planting and seaming up middle followed by a TE Seam that had Penn State lost as they cheated up.

Again, it falls maybe a point below masterful (9.0/10), but I was amazed at the not only the offensive gameplan but the willingness to mange it while things seemed to be crumbling. Trust the coaches has never been more true than having Wilson at the wheel.

The execution by JT...that was masterful.

I was just about to say - here's what another village's idiot (hint: he used to be ours) had to say recently about his offense's woes:

“We’re continually improving and evolving,” [village idiot] said after Wednesday’s practice. “We’re a young football team. We have to do a better job of protecting the football, and eliminating self-inflicted wounds. We’re playing behind the chains way too much. We’re not at that level yet to overcome those things."

So glad we have Wilson/Day running the show and explaining our successes rather than barfing out this drivel.

EDIT: Seriously guys, check out Bevo if you haven't. Sure, the joke's on us having lost out on as close to a sure thing natty as you'll ever get, but it's impossible not to laugh tears of joy having these professionals on our side vs. the asshat we had on the sidelines the past 2 seasons. A sampling of comments from just 1 page of the Beck thread on ShaggyBevo:

"have i mentioned that tim beck $#@!ing sucks?"
"Has he ever gotten the ball to a receiver who was on the move?"
"tim becks designed QB run plays are about as creative as my morning dumps."
"I could call a better offense and I’ve never played collegiate football"
"That drive to open the 3rd quarter was the best called drive we've had in a while. Did someone lock Tim in the bathroom at halftime?"
"Tim got out of the bathroom and is back in the booth. Damn."
"I hope you rot in hell you worthless hack"
"This guys is $#@!ing dog $#@!."
"$#@! this tool bag. I don’t care if bad things happen to him. He deserves it for all the pain he puts me through on saturdays"
"$#@!ing clueless piece of $#@! $#@!et Tim Beck"
"Seriously, WTF is wrong with this guy?!!! $#@!ing bush league hack."
"And it's not as if we're playing a very good defense. Tech, who is currently getting shut down by ISU, scored 34. Hell, Baylor scored 16."
"Death to Tim Beck"
"Beck may be the worst ever. I hate him"
"Cannot wait to hear Tom’s excuses for Beck. Offense getting worse. Playcalling is not adjusting to the personnel or lack there of at all"
"Just checking in to say Tim Beck can go choke on $#@!s"
"Yeah Mensa just can't admit he made a huge mistake with Beck. Dude is just dreadful."
"I saw this exact same movie play out 4 years ago. I bet even the thread pages line up."
"Fire this $#@!ing piece of $#@! today! "
..and my personal favorite:
"I want to smack this guy with a baseball bat."

Let's enjoy what we have.

Yet there is still some dumbass buckeye fan over there blaming Urban, how it was Urbans offense, Beck wasn't the play caller, yada yada yada. Well how the fuck is that working out for UT now? I guess Urban all of the sudden for the first time ever has let someone else run the offense. Bullshit. Herman's O was way different than Becks/Warriners, and now Wilson/Day is way different. So I guess it is totally a coincidence that UT is having the same offensive woes we had last year yet Urbans offensive has suddenly been cured?

Yeah, I know what the UT fans are starting to go through, warned them once, and now don't have the heart to keep harping on it. I think that most of them have figured it out a bit quicker than we did (in part because they can look at what he did here as well as at Nebraska and at what Wilson and day are doing here now). The buckeye apologist for Beck over there reminds me of Herbstreit trying to ingratiate himself with his audience by highlighting the supposed ignorance of the Buckeye fanbase.
