2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

Given that it's not out of reach for the buckeyes to make the playoff, I think Illinois, scUM and wisky better prepare their ani. Urban's gonna look to hit 50 each week. If the Buckeyes play like the pissed off football team we saw last week, I feel like only wisky might be able to stop the onslaught.

Make the playoff or not, this will be a fun and exciting final 3 weeks.

So in case you missed the third College Football Playoff top 25 reveal late Tuesday, or changed the channel the second you recognized Grayson Allen, Michigan got a passing reference …

… annnnnnnnnnnnnnd then a trolling one.

  • The Wolverines (8-2, 5-2 Big Ten) were mentioned for the first time when they cracked the rankings at No. 24;
  • The second time, though, is what stuck. ESPN analyst Booger McFarland brought up the Big Game and Worldwide Leader teammate — and Buckeyes alum — Joey Galloway smiled, offering with a playful sniff:
“Michigan who?”

Miami losing this game would actually be fantastic for us.

200

Thanks. Do tell--in that Virginia/Miami game on Saturday at noon, for whom should we cheer?

The cool thing about the Playoff is it gives you a mulligan. It shouldn't give you two.
I don't particularly disagree, but it still bears noting that it wouldn't just be Ohio State that would be given two mulligans in the scenarios being kicked around. Any team they're going to take in the 4 spot - again, in the scenarios where OSU is a candidate for it - will have two losses as well. Of them, only Ohio State will also be a conference champion. Oddly enough, last year Ohio State proved that conference championships weren't all that matters... this year, there is great potential to go the other direction.

Which.....

Gets us right back to the same problems in all the other structures..... voter/selection committee bias. Now with 4 teams instead of 1 (Old poll system) or 2 (BCS).

:cough cough: there may have be a handful of people :cough: who :cough: suggested that a playoff wouldn't fix this particular 'problem' :cough cough:

All that said, I'm not too proud.. if they take OSU at 4, I'm not going to be seen taking the high road and talking about how a 31 point loss to Iowa is disqualifying. If they don't take OSU, I am gonna hope we kick the living shit out of whoever in whatever bowl.

Agree with the majority of you - however, one thing I haven't seen mentioned is that Sparty (MD & @ Rutgers) and PedSt (Neb & @ MD) need to win their remaining games, If the Pedsters can remain a top10 team, and Sparty can hang in the 15-18 range, it helps our argument a lot.

It has been mentioned and absolutely agree.

Here is the conference that bothers me no matter what; the ACC

OSU really needs South Carolina to take out Clemson or Pitt/UVA to hang a loss on Miami because if both stay undefeated before it, the loser of the ACC CG would have a valid argument as having a better resume than OSU.

I know we all keep saying no way the ACC gets two teams but that is just us. I could absolutely see the loser of that game, if say it's close and a well played high scoring game, be promoted for that 4th spot. There is no stated rule about how many teams per conference. It just says they are after the top 4 teams.

Agreed. If you give me a spot in the playoffs, I'll take it. But I'm not too thrilled that a 2-loss team has a chance to be in, whether it's Ohio State or not.
The problem with allowing 4 teams to play for the championship is that you HAVE to take 4 teams.

We are a long shot.

This might not be a hot take, but...

I think it’s closer to a sure shot than a long shot. Ohio State is close to controlling its own destiny with two losses. Can’t ask for anything more than that.

The main scenario that is in place right now depends on things that should happen actually happening, not to mention the potential for some of these teams to take an extra loss before the Buckeyes would need to depend on the favorites winning out.

Those odds are pretty amazing considering the additional late loss to Iowa.

The committee has all but told USC to talk to the hand (thanks, ‘90s kids) if they’re being compared to Ohio State when all is said and done by placing Penn State above them.

With that said, The Big Ten Championship could have a hell of a lot more riding on it come December. Can’t wait to be front and center for that one. More than thrilled I took a shot on early tickets now. *Exhale*

It all goes to absolute [Mark May] this weekend if Wisconsin fails to stay undefeated

All of these scenarios we're throwing around make sense but if OSU doesn't have that top 5 team left on it's resume it gets much trickier.
Which is so stupid if you really think about it. Wisconsin is Wisconsin. What they do this weekend or 8 weekends ago doesn't mean shit to when we will play them and supposedly get their best shot. But because something completely out of our control happened, that makes us not as good. Same thing for Wisconsin if they were to beat us. Not that they'd be left out........but a win over top 4 Ohio State looks better than a win over top 10 Ohio State. But we shit the bed against Iowa, so if they were to beat us 4 games later....it's not as impressive because of a game they had nothing to do with.

So dumb.

The outcome of the games help everyone decide how good a team really is. You think it's dumb that a win could have less value because the team we beat ended up losing again?
