2017 CFB Bowl Games Open Thread

And maybe, just maybe much as I hate to say 'bama/Saban get the benefit of the doubt because they deserve the benefit of the doubt!

Yea, call me crazy!
They do not, because past years' results are not relevant. They can win every game for the next five years. The only thing that should matter in the 6th year are the results of the 6th year.

Indeed, 'bama had one road loss to rival Auburn by 12. Buckeyes lost to the Sooners by 15 at home and got clocked by (5) loss unranked Iowa 55-24. Period, end of story!

Let's move on, shall we?

AL.com crowing about the massive ratings for last night's game...

Alabama's CFP national-championship win over Georgia earns second-highest TV bowl ratings ever

...ESPN's presentation delivered a massive 16.7 overnight on its Nielsen-rated networks (ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU) as part of its MegaCast production, which marks a 9 percent increase from last season's thrilling ending to Clemson's win over Alabama...

...The Alabama-Georgia matchup ranks second only to the 2015 game between Ohio State and Oregon, which pulled in an 18.8.

This headline clearly mis-states its place in TV bowl ratings history: it should say "2nd-highest CFP bowl ratings ever", or "2nd-highest TV bowl ratings in CFP era".

OSU's title game against Oregon was itself 2nd in viewers to the '06 Texas/USC game (going back to 1991). If the estimate of 28.443M viewers for last night's game holds up, that will be - at best - the 12th-most viewed bowl game "ever".

That has nothing to do with the point you made, which was that Alabama is Alabama and you should reward Alabama.
No, said they deserve the benefit of the doubt and the committee is supposed to pick the 4 best teams which they did. Of course last year the Buckeyes got the benefit of the doubt which they didn't deserve ie barely defeating a 3-9 Sparty 17-16 and getting lucky against ttun er as per usual the defense bailing out JT.

They "deserve the benefit of the doubt", as in, they deserve preferential treatment for being Alabama. That's ridiculous for anyone.

How many losses would Alabama need to have next season to override that "benefit of the doubt?" Would a four-loss Alabama team deserve to get in if the committee still thinks Saban could get them ready to beat the other three playoff teams?
