2017-2018 Ohio State Men's Basketball (24-7, 15-3, #2 Seed in B1G Tourney)

The 7 game stretch leading into Purdue is easy on paper. Still hesitant to call any road games a "sure" win.

Next 3 are on the road

Rutgers is bad
Northwestern has flopped after being a preseason top 25
Minnesota is reeling right now without 2 of their best players.

Then you get 4 at home.

Nebraska
Penn State
Indiana
Illinois

Even if they slipped up twice theyd be 19-6 (10-2) heading into Purdue. The way they are playing right now I dont think sweeping those 7 is unrealistic at all though. They are in very good position with a very favorable schedule.

My personal (pessimistic) call is 2 losses- Minnesota still plays tough in the Barn and wins, then Indiana still has some talent to come into Columbus out of that home stretch. The rest would be disappointing losses, though things happen in league play sometimes.

On the other hand, KBD is the best player on the court in each of those 7 games. And when you have that, as long as he plays close to the best, they can sweep this stretch.

They are playing Minnesota at Madison Square Garden. I haven't heard it called the Barn before ... :biggrin2:

Rutger is not bad. In fact, they are a great defensive team that have been playing better and better and nearly beat MSU at Breslin the other night. They are gonna be hungry for OSU to come into town. I think we can pull through because we've got KBD, but I think it will be a harsher test than these past two games have been, oddly enough. And I would not be surprised in the slightest if we lose.

Northwestern, well, they've just been off this season. I think if we continue as we have been playing we should win, but it will be a challenge. Minny is more of a neutral site game and if they still don't have Coffey back then I like our chances overall, but in sum it's gonna be a tough road stretch, for sure. I don't think we make it through all three of those games without a loss.

yeah, i certainly wouldn't classify rutgers as "bad." sure, they had a couple bad (but close) losses to hartford and stony brook while also being pasted by minnesota and purdue on the road. on the other hand, they've beaten seton hall (currently #13) and barely lost to florida state (#23) while also giving msu everything they could handle... twice. i expect this to be a rugged game. rutgers does not shoot well at all, but their style of play has given plenty of good teams fits. my guess is that this will be the most physical game yet.

They have one of the highest home court advantage numbers in the Massey ratings (#11), which ranks their SoS #19. Pomeroy, on the other hand, ranks them outside the top 100 for luck (#129). Massey now predicts a 23 win season.

What this tells me is that this young team draws a lot on the energy of the home crowd in the Schott (who would have thought that?). I see that Coach is tampering down expectations. The challenge is going to be to repeat this performance on the road against hostile crowds. The two-day turnaround, after a three game road swing, to play Nebraska at home also will be tough.

This is now a much more psychological challenge for the coach and team. It's going to be fun to watch!

Hey, I did see they hosted a PBR (bull riding) event last week, had a friend go, so maybe I’m on the cutting edge of its new nickname.
