2017-2018 College Basketball Discussion (Official Thread)

Like both those teams' chances at this point. And I love what Jay Wright is doing, big Nova fan- style, attitude, everything.
to be sure, nova doesn't run the kind of offense that virginia wants to face. nova doesn't rely on scoring in the blocks and pretty much everyone shoots about 40% or better from three. a good passing and jump shooting team may be the cavaliers' kryptonite. in a vacuum, i don't know if nova is better than virginia. face-to-face, though, i'm inclined to go with nova. probably a nail-biter.

Close game? You'll get that just by nature of Tony Bennett. Can't imagine the risk aversion of a UVA championship game

Know there was some discussion of them in the recruiting forum last year, but Grand Canyon U. is now 1 game away from the NCAA tourney. Their fans caught my eye, interesting story all around with Thunder Dan Majerle's squad.

Grand Canyon makes a lot of money and is ready to make a lot of noise

...

More than 19,000 students attend the GCU campus, and another 70,000 students pursue degrees online, which creates a fruitful revenue stream -- the school generated $218 million in the second quarter of 2017 alone, $4 million more than professional wrestling giant WWE's earnings in the same period -- for a school that earns 79 percent of its revenue from federal student financial aid, per azcentral.com. But it comes with a cost.

...

Play in the WAC (remember when?) championship tomorrow.

I'm a big fan of Jay Bilas' in-game commentary, but he sounded like a fool in defending Allen's hip check last night, saying something along the lines of, "If this were anyone other than Grayson Allen, would we even be talking about this, or would it have even been noticed?" Well, Jay, that's exactly the problem, isn't it? Good job on the refs for calling that punk for a flagrant 1. And since the officiating crew did something right, I can only assume that that clown Ted Valentine was getting a drink or something, and not involved while the other two officials made the right call.

And they're at it again. Two minute replay review to put 1 tenth of a second on the clock, because the clock magically stops the moment the ball hits the net.

Clutch shot by UMBC eliminates regular season champion Vermont on their home floor. It's not the first time the Catamounts have choked away a bid at home in the title game, this time against a team that hadn't won there in a decade.
