2016 tOSU Wide Receiver Discussion

Here is another picture of Marshall listed at 5'11 beside Wilson listed at 5'10, and to me looks like an inch, not 3. Wilson has always been listed at 5'10".

Also, Wilson came in to OSU in 2013 listed at 180 not 170 and Samuel came in at 190. Wilson has put on 15 lbs of muscle and Samuel has put on 10. There is not some large difference in size between the two to me anyway.

It's not the angle either

So the answer is no, you don't have any thoughts on my post besides the word "undersized?" I think Dontre has solid size for the h now that he's 4 years into his rebuild physically. He may have been OK last year too but he hasn't shown any durability yet physically. Either way I do not want him trying to help run inside if Weber , Dunn and Samuel cannot get it done. I want him on the perimeter making plays like he did two years ago before (and briefly after ) the injury.

at the risk of extending this excruciating minutia, you do know that colleges lie a lot about measurables, right ?

The difference in their first year size was staggering.

Maybe Dontre has grown taller (I seem to recall someone talking about that in the off season last year ), but overall he was tiny when he arrived and has not been able to stay in the lineup in ANY of his 3 years and has battled injuries for the last two.

Reread my post. There were a couple of points I said I agreed with, just not on two others, Samuels ability to carry it 20 times and Dontres size.

Part of me thinks it won't affect Dontre's touches as much. I'd pencil him in for 4-8 a game regardless. But if Samuel is doing more work at RB, it could mean more touches for the next guy up... McCall? Though we've had a couple other guys at that spot on the depth chart before... or could even work an H-end in.
I'm sure Campbell would also work at the H... And I'm curious to see how the H-ends would work out, since we have so many athletes that are kind of undersized but very athletic TEs

What a deep, fast group. It's hard to imagine that every guy listed isn't going to see the field in some capacity. Stump practicing with the freshmen and Gibson missing 10 practices hurts the depth at X a little, but when you've got Brown and Mack holding down the top of that position, I don't think there's much to be concerned about there. The thing that stands out to me the most is the blocking ability of the starters: Samuel, Brown, Campbell and Smith - Those guys are all awesome blockers. I think the RBs will have a lot of long runs this year, largely due to what those WRs can do to DBs in the second level.

I think Victor is a RS. Meyer all but stated as such when mentioning Victor and Mack. Said that Victor was talented but not ready to see the field. But all in all, I agree with your list

Yeah and I'm not sure I agree. The great ones never stay 4 years and virtually no one in the group is proven so I'm not seeing the logic here in assuming he can't contribute. If he hasn't earned time by week 8-9 then sure. But now? Who can tell?

Valid point. With so many unproven commodities, why not play him. But if he is having a hard time adjusting to the speed of the game in practice, I don't see it getting easier in live games

All reports I've read have raved about Victor thus far. Seems like we'll have a heavy rotation and I think Victor brings a very unique skill set to the table that we could utilize right away. Long guy that can catch the contested ball and really fluid route runner. That being said, I don't know where his blocking is at and that's crucial if he's going to play.

I don't think tha the provides anything that Torrance does not. Victor is also ultra thin. I love Victor's potential but I wouldn't bet on him making a big impact this year.

Well, I know I'm late with TG being gone, but Victor provides a WR that'll go up and get the ball at the highest point. TG wasn't that. Coach Meyer even said as much after the spring game. He doesn't have the same ball skills as Victor.

But I agree with you, neither one of them are (were, in TG's case) going to make an impact this year.

Muscle mass and durability would be my only concern but if he plays somewhat sparingly, that might not be an issue. And with TV now out, he might really have an opportunity to contribute.
