2016 tOSU Really Basic Defense Discussion

Who was the last team to straight up beat OSU by just running the ball? Feels like we worry about our run defense every year yet teams are never able to make the Buckeyes pay for it.

Well, we rarely get beat anyhow but when we do, outside of 2013, it's usually when we face a ball control offense and lose the turnover battle. That's how UW is so good at negating talent disadvantages. They'll be at home and you can bet your ass they will attempt to string together long, methodical drives to keep our O off the field. If we can't get quick stops or if our O gets off to a slow start, their big OL and the energy they get from the crowd will be hard to overcome.

I'm not predicting a loss. I just think they present a formidable challenge to our young team, particularly the front 7.

Right away I thought of Wisconsin 2010. I didn't get to watch that game, but I saw some of the highlights of Clay running right up the middle for chunks of yardage.

Illinois 2007 (and LSU later that year) Juice Williams and Mendenhall tore the OSU defense up.

Back to the Oklahoma game, I do agree with @Systems_id 's larger point, that a team also has to have the defense to pull it off or they can't stick to the run game forever.

Not sure if OU has the horses to shut down the Buckeye offense.

There are quite a few candidates, depending on how you define the question. Another is the 2011 game at Nebraska. OSU was up big, then in the final quarter or quarter-and-a-half, Burkhead and Martinez ran all over the Buckeye D.

How soon we forget Michigan State last year and two years ago. And what about all the rushing and passing yards put on the Bucks by the Hoosiers.

I think this is the night our secondary opens eyes. Hooker is on some next level [Mark May] and he's only going to become a bigger boss as the season goes on.
What I worry about is sometime that great new talent translates to a few great plays and many more goofs. I am hoping this secondary is the real deal, but I am going to wait to form a valid opinion.
