2016-2017 College Basketball Discussion

How bad is the Big Ten? What happened to Izzo's team this off-season? They just lost to Northeastern.

I haven't ramped up my college bball viewing just yet, but had no clue Sparty was going this direction this season. 7-4 and none of those 7 in the W column are impressive (Wichita State being the best of the bunch).

Looking at the Big Ten it seems to be Indiana, Purdue and Wisconsin as the best bets and all of those teams have blemishes.

IU has 2 good wins (not often you can beat KU and UNC in the same year), but then a clunker against Fort Wayne. And they still cannot beat Butler (who is a good team).

Purdue has gotten curb-stomped by the 2 better teams they have played, but beat a good (not great) Notre Dame team this weekend.

Wisconsin is a Top-15 type team, but I wouldn't put them in the elite this year.

This would be a perfect year for Thad to make a run in the B1G with the lack of consistency around the league. Not going to happen, of course. If Purdue gets things straightened out, they are the only team I see maybe making the Elite 8. Everyone else looks like Sweet Sixteen then out.

Holy shit! :yow1:

"I tried and played tons of people, in and out of the lineup, called timeouts, trying to get people off the floor," Mulkey said.

The Lady Bears (11-1) scored the first 21 points, led 77-18 at halftime and shut out Winthrop 29-0 in the fourth quarter.

When they shook hands at the end, Eagles coach Kevin Cook told Mulkey he appreciated her efforts.

Biggest D-I women's rout: No. 3 Baylor tops Winthrop 140-32

As a side note, I looked at the RPI today. We are 12 or 13 games into the season, so there should be plenty of data for the computers to measure and tabulate. We get 9-3 Florida at number 5 over a Duke team (10) that beat them on a neutral floor. We have UCLA at number 24? And Kentucky, a victim of UCLA at Rupp, is 11? 10-2 Xavier is number 4? 9-3 Texas-Arlington (!) is number 16. I don't know anything about this formula other than...it sucks.

I don't know what it is about refs and travelling that they are so afraid to blow the whistle anymore. A lot (not all) of the jump stops players engage in are travels, a lot of guys take the extra balancing step on the way to the bucket on the break, and of course, then there are the stars in the NBA (I'm looking at you LeBron) who insist on changing the pivot foot not one time, not two, not three....etc. I watched a clip of Jordan versus Len Bias in college the other day, and Jordan got whistled for the tiniest of extra steps on the way to a dunk, and I'm thinking no one gets called for that anymore, not even players no where near the level of deference that an All-American like Jordan commanded. Anyway, yeah, that guy travelled. I really wish refs would reward the defensive effort with the calls, but they just don't. Sucks.

That player did not travel on the way to the basket. He did a waltz.
