Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

Due to the location, I give the edge in attendance to Alabama.
Distance means squat when it comes to OSU fan attendance. Just because our opponent's campus may be closer to the venue doesn't mean they (Alabama or any other school) will put more cheeks in the seats. No school in the country "travels better" than Ohio State...that's not trash talk or hyperbole, but fact.

My concerns about Cardale are how well he will operate the option, how decisive he will be (especially against more athletic opposition) and how he will handle adversity. One or two of his deep balls were completed while getting drilled but his hit count will go through the roof in this game.

Something to keep in mind is that OSU’s coaching staff admitted that they failed to gameplan for JT in the VT game. Rather, they still had him running the “Braxton” offense. Second, the playbook was also very limited for that game. Cardale was able to come right in and to take on the full playbook. It was also clear that the staff did a better job of calling a game to his strengths in the B1G CG, and with less than a week to prepare. I think that bodes well for his prep for this game.

I could be totally off base here, but Cardale strikes me as a much more “emotional” player than JT. JT admittedly is a “cerebral” guy and early on during the season sometimes “overthought” things. I don’t see Cardale having the “overthinking” issue, as he seemed much more willing than JT to stick the ball in a tight spot and trust his receiver to make the play. However, I could see him getting down if things start going badly. On the other hand, he’s a kid who basically looked like he had missed his window at tOSU and had no problem stepping up when called upon. That speaks quite well to his resiliency, I think.

A lot of Cardale angst but Sims is not without some questions. He is not McCarron...this will be his biggest stage and is expected to produce . Cardale is playing with house money and if Urban and staff prepare him right he will be OK. The Qb play will be fun to watch!

I have a feeling it's going to be a sea of scarlet and gray. I don't think people understand how fast Buckeyes have snatched up these seats.

We'll see.

I would love nothing more than for this to be true, but I think we are underestimating how much Alabama fans love their football team...just as much as we do. I think it will be close to a 50/50 split, which is an impressive feat in and of itself, considering it's an easy drive for Bama fans.

I have my tickets...see ya in NOLA

What can you tell me about the OSU kicking game? We have an excellent punter and a very strong legged FG kicker with accuracy issues. Our Punt/KO coverage has been very good but our return game has not been consistent.

For punting, OSU has a punter that Meyer can say, "put it at the 3 yard line on the right hash marker" and that will be exactly where it will go. Against Wisconsin, Cameron Johnston had a 73 yard punt to land at the 2, and a 58 yard punt to land at the 5. That 2nd punt had english on it that as soon as it hit the ground, it went up and back at most 1 yard.

Where can one find such statistics?
http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2014/12/ohio_state_beating_alabama_in.html

As I mentioned, it shows that those percentages are from the state of Ohio and Alabama. So since Alabama would have more alumni near NOLA than OSU would, I'd say they will overcome that small percentage difference from the home states. But OSU still has plenty of alumni all over the country. Plus they travel with the best. So I'll go with 55/45 in favor of Bama for attendance as my guess.

Oh, yeah?! We had a game in Hawaii once. Our fans shipped their RV's over for the game. Thats a fact! Lol.

Just in case you're even slightly serious, you've actually had two games in Hawaii: Nov 30, 2002 (W 21-16) and Nov 29, 2003 (L 37-29). And Hawaii doesn't support RVs.

As for beau's claim that Alabama will have an attendance edge due solely to location, if you watched B1G CCG, it was probably 80-90% Buckeye fans despite a travel-time difference of less than two hours.

That's comparing apples to oranges. Alabama travels well and the Sugar Bowl is like a second home to Tide fans. Educated guess 60% Ala 38% tOSU 2% Drunk Cajuns
