Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

You are on to something. We sub the entire D line at times in order to keep everybody fresh. If you can limit subs on offense that will play to you advantage, no doubt. I wonder which way we would pick if the we won the coin toss? Not knowing that much about your QB, I bet we take the ball to start the game, try to start fast and see how Cardale(?) reacts to having to play catchup.
I am more worried about our D if you have early success...

In August THIS WAS THE GAME everyone wanted..just not Sims vs 12 guage!
Lol. And I assure you, if we were considering this matchup in August we would not have wanted Sims to be the guy either. We all thought Coker, the transfer from FSU, would be a shoe in. Funny how things work out. Unless something strange happens, it looks like we will have 3 straight years of 1st time starting QBs. I am pretty sure that's why we let the old OC go and got lane. QB development.

No doubt Saban will make Cardale beat him. Our OL is playing at a very high level right now and if they can give CJ time he has the ability to have another big game. Am I right in recalling that Bama's D only has 10 sacks on the season? Hard to believe if true. If Bama's DB's man up on the WR's I think our guys make some big plays throughout the game.

I also think Herman and Urb's will have a few wrinkles with Marshall running some read option from the QB position. Marshall, Wilson and Elliott all have speed to get to the edge.
Bama does not usually try too hard to sack a mobile qb. They just try to contain him. I believe this is a strategy that Saban learned from watching LSU play aTm

I may be wrong, but I don't remember bama ever taking the ball first.

The convo on arm strength is silly.

Cardale has a huge arm, yes...

...but even though Nick Marshall probably has as much of a cannon their strengths are so totally different that simplifying it down to how far they can throw it is irrelevant.

I do agree that Bo and Dak aren't in the same league, though.

Bingo. Contain him in the pocket. If you lose contain, they scramble for yardage.
It's a strategy I wish our DE's would utilize. Far too often do you see the edges get pushed PAST the QB to the place where there's a 4yd hole to step through into daylight.

When the QB isn't comfortable stepping into the pocket it results in huge losses of yards, but all it takes is a disciplined read to step up and take the 5-10 yards the LBs leave on outside blitzes like that.

That is something out fairly weak offensive line has done well this year. Especially in the second half, they like to allow the DL to push to deep so sims can scramble.

Saban started that when we played against Tebow when Urban was with Florida. You push TO him. Not PAST him. Pretty affective, actually.

Cardale is no scrambler and Marshall will not be in the pocket...so what will it be pressure or contain? If Cardale gets time he will be fine likewise if you play to rush the passer can they still stop Zeke and Samuel? Its going to be one hell of a chess match...I hope Herman doesn't get too cute!
