Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

Don't believe everything Jwins tells you: ie, within this site there's a not insignificant bunch of us who root for our conference in bowl games and ooc games - that includes Michigan. I also root for anyone playing Notre Dame unless they happen to be this year's Semiholes. Like you, I believe that other conference teams doing well only enhances Ohio State's reputation and chances to get into select games.

Further, if this is to be a National Championship it needs to have a NATIONAL setting. Miami, NOLA, Dallas and LA do not make a NATIONAL setting. If the NFL can site playoff games north of the Mason - Dixon line, then so can CFBS. Don't worry, southern boys have done very well in the winter climate - Bart Starr sneaking it over to beat the Cowboys is still a fond memory of mine.

At the same time, Roger Staubach is from Cincinnati... Just sayin'...

Gamble-2002-Ohio-State.png

That wasn't the play. The play was on 3rd and 6 with just under two minutes left in regulation. Gamble was blatantly held, then caught the ball in bounds. The refs didn't call the hold, and ruled the catch incomplete. They called Gamble out on the catch.

If the refs had made EITHER call, then the Buckeyes would have had 1st and 10 with roughly 1:45 on the clock, and the Canes with only one timeout...

The Buckeyes should have won that game in regulation. It was only terrible officiating that even let that game get to OT in the first place.

I think the point was to show (for the umpteenth time) that even THAT call, as poorly managed as it was, was actually the correct one.

With those two teams, the way the game had gone, I liked the 17-14 final (right?) that it should've been in regulation... but a natty's a natty.

I was referring to this PA call being a "gift" -- it was not.

How do you guys feel about match ups in this game? Our front 7 and WR position are strengths, whereas our OL and secondary are weaknesses.

DL is clearly the strength of the OSU team.

I think Jones and the WR corps can cause problems for the Bama secondary if given enough time.

Bama front 7 vs OSU OL and offensive scheme is the key to the game IMO.

I think it may be a tad bit of a reach to include the OL as a strength. Now over the course of the season they moved out of the weakness category due to phenomenal coaching, but I'm not ready to call it a strength yet. Next year it will be though.

I'm basing it off of their last game, I would move them to a strength, but I am also willing to accept them being just under a strength.

Here's the way I see our matchups...

Bama DL vs osu OL is a draw. Bama has better depth but our tempo works in our favor so draw.

Bama OL vs osu DL- advantage osu. Two 1st team all americans on our side.

Bama WR vs osu DB- advantage bama for obvious reasons

Bama DB vs osu WR- advantage osu. We are similar to Auburn in regards to having two guys over 700 yds receiving. Difference is osu has like 5 others over 200 yards which is much deeper than Auburn.

Bama LB vs osu RB- advantage osu. Jalin, Dontre, and Zeke is a mismatch on players like Depriest.

Bama RB vs osu LB- Bama. I think Henry especially will be tough for our backers and our backers have had the tendancy to get out of their gaps leading to big plays.

Special teams is a draw. Both punters are great and both place kickers have struggled. I like our coverage teams and our return games better though

Just interested: How would you rate coaching staffs from HC to Special teams?
