Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

Some valid points.I have no idea why the Sparty series was cancelled. Kinda disappointed. We really have no desire to play in the snow so good luck scheduling something late October, early November. Traditionally, that's when we play Tennessee and LSU. As far as rooting for conference rivals, it helps with strength of schedule when comparing conferences which ultimately gives us the benefit of the doubt in the rankings.

And that's the crux of the issue.
It's not a real playoff until there are host sites in places like Chicago, NYC, Denver, SanFran, Seattle, etc.
Faced with the prospect of having to play the most important games of the year up here in January... teams might find a reason to expose themselves to that weather once every 2 years with home-and-aways.

Somebody might but it won't be me.

Strange, you just made excuses a few minutes before posting that...

The last two bowl game losses came after a chance to play for a championship was gone. Motivation was not there. That's the downside of the " championship or bust" mentality of any program. There's still plenty to play for in this game. We'll be ready to play...and you guys will be too. Won't hear any excuses from us if you guys win.

Said it before, these two rivalries are completely different. Not uncommon for Bama/Barn folks to be friends, lovers, etc. Not knocking that, but the thought of even holding the hand of a cesspool dwelling horse-hussie up north makes me want to regurgitate my meals.

You gotta have more faith... did AJ Hawk flinch away from dating Brady Quinn's sister? He turned her into rooting for her brother to get pummeled in the Fiesta Bowl.

To you guys, why is Nick Saban so easy to hate? It's not like he runs the score up on people or is involved in academic scandals.

Same reason people hate Urban Meyer, just something about him. Especially easy because he's usually beating your team. We still owe Saban from 1998.

In all seriousness, no hate for Saban here. He's a great coach.

I don't think anyone really hates him. He's a proven winner, and with that, people want to see failure. Trust us, we know all about that. I think as far as college coaches go, Saban is the leader. He's proven as a recruiter and a coach. I don't like the SEC, BUT, I think Alabama is an amazing program and has been since Saban has gotten there. I always root for Bama aginst anyone.....except the 2015 Sugar Bowl

Its no secret that Alabama has been the most dominant program for quite some time now and even when they don't win they're not far off from winning it all. I personally like Saban because you have to respect what he does so consistently. Its easy though to want the king to fall and right now Alabama is as big as a program comes. I think many programs aren't just jealous of Saban for all the winning he does but also the way he recruits. Programs are just jealous of him IMO and its why all of us (well the majority anyways) don't mind Saban because we are confident in our guy as he's the best option outside of Saban.

1 thing is for sure... id much rather have saban than that fuck Jimbo Fisher

I personally don't hate Nick Saban at all. The only SEC team I thoroughly hate is Florida, mainly because of that miserable stretch from 2007-2008 when Florida won the NC in both football and basketball that year. Ever since then Florida fans were fucking insufferable until Urban resigned.

FIFY. But I meant to welcome you, great insight and we always want knowledgeable posters here that can contribute to meaningful conversation. No matter what happens, I hope you stick around. Some of our more valuable contributors here come from schools we do not care for, but they provide fantastic commentary. So welcome aboard.

But to be perfectly honest, it is the same reason everyone hates Urban Meyer...success. Saban is a great coach and has built an incredible legacy in Tuscaloosa. Cut throat but he gets results. Urban hates Satan but it is only because they are the two biggest kids on the block...they are just going to fight each other if one is to be the better foe. My high school was one of the top 3 wrestling schools in the country. We always hated the other top two (despite not even knowing them) because we wanted to be the best and they were the roadblocks in our way. Simply put, I hate whatever is in my way to a championship. Well, Bama is just that and from your perspective, we are the same.

Aside from that...sorry, but SEC! SEC! SEC! fans are fucking dicks and they are seemingly unending. No other conference has done that and while your conference has been the best in the last 10+ years or so, no other conference felt the need to institute a chant to validate on-field efforts while in their prime. Just let actual games do the talk, not choreographed Deliverance-draw chants, ESPiN, and BBQs. We get that your conference is better in general and deeper overall, but when teams are being beatified and regarded as better than half the NFL, the rest of the country tends to scoff. I understand you and your school are not wholly to blame, but everyone is sick of the puff-chested supremacy.

Back to Saban/Bama...I think the upcoming game is going to be a downright battle but the last 3-4 years of recruiting for you guys (which I follow as close as anyone) is downright scary.

Never said we can't run to the perimeter, I said we will struggle to run the option w/Cardale. We will HAVE to push the perimeter, and we'll try multiple ways of doing it (it's a cornerstone to our offensive game plan). We'll see how successful it turns out, I think we break a few plays, but we won't get there like we have most of this season. It will be a means throughout the game. The whole play book is coming out in this one, there is no question. But I just believe that our best opportunity will be running the ball btwn the tackles at Alabama. Which means we have to hit the perimeter or it will just get ugly.

Look, Nick Saban and Kirby Smart are not turning on Urban's offensive film and getting nervous. This is the same offense Urban ran at Florida - Saban is well verse on tendencies, formations, etc. His unknown is Cardale Jones and the long ball.

On the flip side, Urban sits down to watch film on Bama's offense this season, and you're seeing things that Nick Saban hasn't attempted in the past - and Kiffin is good at it. That's my biggest concern.

Re: first bold, we don't have to run to the edge to run power in the middle. You take the defense out of the box with formations. If they load it up anyway, someone outside is open for an easy gain.

Re: second bold: this might be fundamentally the same offense that Urban ran in Florida, but there's a pretty big difference: Urban has a 1300 yard RB this time around, as well as an actual quarterback, rather than a freak fullback that can also throw. Percy Harvin was something else, and Tebow was a freak, but I would favor this group of WRs against any of Urban's units at Florida...

Jmimo...

I hate Saban. He's coached two historic schools in one conference. Something about that feels wrong to me.

That and I'm nearly certain he's a cyborg with a cold, dead, black heart. There is no joy or love in his heart since he traded his soul for CFB glory and Jimmy Johnson hair.
