Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

I lived in the south from 1995-2011.

Tailgated around and checked out plenty of SEC action but that was well before they went on their holier than thou kick the past few years. In fact back then the SEC East was dominant and the west was something far from dominant.

The Bama guys would be able to tell us better but I found the Gators to be about the only universally reviled fan base.
From my experience, when on top, Gator fans are just cocky....and a bunch of dorks too. Tennessee fans expectations often do not match reality. LSU fans are a bunch of belligerent drunks. Auburn fans lives revolve around being "little brother" and belittling Alabama. All other fan bases are tolerable.

OK, possible flameworthy alert. Herbstreit seems to an objectionable commentator but Joey Galloway is a douche. Am I way off base?

99/100 times I'd say you have it backwards but Joey seems to be on the rag today and Herbie is reading the ESPN script most OSU fans want to hear right now.

All in all just don't fuck with Spielman and we can tolerate opinions about our horde of sports personalities.

Admittedly I was coming here to lurk and see what tOSU fan base thought of our upcoming game, however after seeing some of my fellow fans comments I wanted to speak up on a couple of points and answer some questions I've seen asked, but go unanswered.

1) Alabama's fan base has a clear divide. There are the people who represent our team well and there are those that do not. Please do not judge us on the few that come across as arrogant A***oles. I imagine this board will see quite a few of them in the coming month, but I can promise, should any of you come to a game in Tuscaloosa, that you would be treated with great hospitality and leave with a different perception of our state.

2) On what Bama needs to work on. The deep ball. We lack the talent that we have recently had at CB in past years and it shows. Our corners will have to do a better job at covering WRs.
Turnovers has been an issue with this team and usually we put the ball on the ground at least once a game. Yeldon and Jones will have to be on their A game and hold onto the ball. Kicking- I'm to the point now that when we ATTEMPT a FG, I expect to miss it. Never have I seen our FG team do a worse job, and that is saying something compared to the last few years. We can get away with these things against poor/good teams, but against great ones is to be decided. Make no mistake, tOSU is a great, proven team or else they wouldn't where they are this season.

3) The Alabama fan base loves Sims and he will go down as one of the programs most beloved players. I can't remember a player on our team sticking through what Sims has had to go through. From sitting 4 years on the bench, to fighting off a transfer QB meant to take over this season, Sims has shown that character and hard work do pay off.

All this being said, ask away and I'll be happy to offer my opinion. I'm looking forward to a great game between two great teams that know how to play "big boy" football. Haha. RTR

I'm curious about your opinion of Rece Davis and Granny Holtz.

Reece seems like a good guy. He's smart and not a total flamer like May. Always hard to tell what's real and whats written for ESPN guys though.

Holtz has Buckeye roots so we try and be respectful but when ND is involved he can get fucking nuts

Always playing against May keeps him in a generally good light for us.

Rece says the accurate things that people don't want to hear. He's a master troll, but he's not often wrong. I respect his ability to do his job while staying outside of the spin zone.

I love Lou, even if he's an obvious homer. Guy has an educated opinion, albeit often outdated that gets cast aside by the fact that he's "old and goofy".
