Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

I have watched nearly every Auburn game this year (wife is a Barner) and totally agree that our offenses are very similar. Their weapons in Duke Williams and Sammy Coates are maybe a smidge better than our overall #1 and #2, but we have much more talent in #3 and down. Where Auburn had success was using their speed on the edges at WR and getting around the corner on sweeps/reverses/counters. This is where I think Ohio State will have to prove Alabama can stop them, otherwise that'll be where the offense is going to thrive.

I do have a question for the Bama guys in this thread about that comparison. I have made that comparison on other boards and have been laughed out of the room. Many Bama folks find MSST to be the better comparison.

What say you?
With Barrett, you were more like the Barn. From what little I've seen of Cardale Jones, you now more closely resemble Miss St. Similar offensive scheme probably because of the Meyer-Mullen connection.

Yea, which I agreed with. Those that made the Meyer-Mullen connection made sense.

The thing that blew me away was how many people didn't think Ohio State ran option or had a power run game. They thought it was a Run & Shoot offense.

OSU teaches the same, to the frustration of many on this board. Game threads are full of "turn your damned head (insert DB name here)" quotes.

That's sort of what happened a few times with Eddie Jackson against Auburn, he was a little bit out of phase and had his head turned back. I think he was trying to see if Auburn was coming with an outside run that he could help on. They are one of the fastest teams to the edge and that has caused trouble before. Does OSU have many first round receivers? Devin Smith? I think both Coates and Duke Williams are better receivers.

I don't believe any of the Buckeye receivers are first-rounders right now. Devin will probably go before the 3rd. The receivers are very good, but I wouldn't say that there are any elites presently.

The Bama guys who are still here are not trolls.

EDIT

I don't think so anyway

One could easily argue the mere presence of diehard Alabama fans, whether they joined recently or years ago, at an Ohio State football board by definition indicates they are trolls of a sort. Troll ~ 1. A word used to describe someone who has opinions you don't agree with.

To be sure, you have to be a diehard football fan to waste one's time at an opposition site imo. Indeed, the expression keep your friends close, but your enemies closer doesn't apply to a fan base. You can have intelligent discourse between an opposing fanbase and still be here for ulterior motives.

Another definition: fan comes from fanatic ~ marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion.

btw, the first (3) pages of the so-called "serious" thread has many o/t, gobbledygook posts. Such is the nature of the beast at any sports, political, etc. internet forum.

Human nature as regards to any discussion.

This is just a guess because I certainly do not claim to have watched every tOSU game this year. Tidefan1 hit it on the head. The QB was more apt to run under Barrett. You can't afford to lose #3. My guess is they(OSU coaches) will not let your QB run too much. It will be designed read option to the tail back and play action passes. My perception of your team with Barrett was very, very close to AU. Barrett being a better QB than AU's.

With 4 teams, and 8 soon enough, conference strength is meaningless. FSU and Ohio State both proved that this year (not that the BXII is any better, though they seem to be stuck in 5 years ago)
It's not like being seeded does anything for Ohio State either. We can travel to Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, or California... absolutely 0 advantage for us being seeded.

That's why it will never go to 8. Not everyone deserves a trophy. If your conference isn't good and you are the champion of said conference why should you get a shot? Simply because that team is the champs of a dumpster fire? Plus, if it were to ever get to 8 teams, the play would be relegated to home turfs at school stadiums until it gets down to 4. The most it should ever get is maybe 6 with 1 and 2 getting a bye. No one wants this to be divisional play. The entire purpose to play the top two teams. Those can be clearly picked from 4. You think FSU is a top 2 team? No way. Not the way they played. Thats why they have turned down joining the SEC multiple times. If they stay there, they stand a good chance of being conference chanps year in and year out.

if Meyer and Herman think they need the QB run Jones will do a little but I think we may see more of Marshall to threaten the edge if that seems vulnerable.
And if that happens with success our safeties roll up and open up your passing game. Thats a good bet. Our secondary can be beat. It was the weak link coming in to this year. I actually thought we would drop 2-3 games. Sims has been the difference maker. Never thought I would say that.
