I love hearing about the weight loss and gains of the players, shows how important the nutrition staff is to the program and how serious the guys are. I'm looking forward to seeing how young guys like Noah Brown, Parris Campbell, Terry McLaurin, Donovan Munger, Darius Slade, Tyquan Lewis, Damon Webb, Marshon Lattimore and Demetrious Knox, etc add to depth and some possibly starting positions.

Its crazy that with established starters at CB, WR and RT gone, our team looks every bit as dangerous. The only weakness seems to be DT and we have enough bodies there to find an adequate replacement at worst and an absolute stud at best. The fact that most of us can name several feasible options at CB, WR and RT with possibly little to no dropoff says a lot. Is it time for the season yet?:sneaky:

I will bite. My five:

1) Tommy Schutt: We need a reliable DT to go with Diesel. You could say Munger or Hill, but Schutt is more urgent...one year left.
2) Johnnie Dixon: Need a big play receiver to replace Devin and I think Dixon is the guy.
3) Damon Webb: Maybe Conley here but I think Webb has more to work with. Either way, we need a corner or two to step up.
4) Jalyn Holmes: Absolutely need a couple DE's to step it up and I liked Holmes a lot, plus he is huge now. Just as easily could put Hubbard up here.
5) Erick Smith: Think he will be the 5th man in the secondary.

I'd go for my top replacements:
1. DT - No clue, but I'll go with Schutt to be in a similar position as Steve Miller and live a little more up to his hype his last year around. He's already shown flashes, but needs to be consistent. (over Hill and Munger)
2. DE - Hubbard (over Holmes and Lewis)
3.CB - Lattimore (over Webb and Conley)
4. WR - Corey Smith - (over Dixon and other youngsters)
5. OL - Chase Farris (over Jones)

In order of confidence for players taking over starting positions from what I've seen and heard, I'd go Vannett at TE, Farris at OT, DE group as a whole (this is because Miller/Frazier were good, not great so even though they're youngsters they should be fine), CB group as a whole (losing Grant is big, but Apple is a future star IMO and the youngsters on his opposite side should be pretty good), WR group as as whole (this is probably less than the previous two, but I think it could be very good, just not positive), then the DT group. The DT group is the only one where we'd be in a TON of trouble if our leader went down. Literally every other position (I suppose TE too since after Vannett it's a huge question mark, but our offense can operate without a TE outside of block scheme limitations) I feel comfortable with. That includes DE. Obviously if Bosa went down We'd be hurting there, but I feel comfortable with the other guys there. At least from what I've heard.

I think the addition of 3 games over yesteryear (FCS, B1G playoff, playoff series) has shown that now, the 3 deep is where all the money is, not just the one deep. I think that is part of the reason why UFM refers to being 9 units strong. Injuries at Alabama, Oregon, and tOSU showed this last year, and 2 years ago, when we lost safeties and linebackers.

think that's accurate. Teams with depth will always be there at the end which seems unfair, but is just a fact of major college football.
Our "ace in the hole' will be our depth. So, basically, we'll always see the same teams playing for the National Championship every year. With some "wild card" team at the end thrown in.

IMO we were going to see that anyway, this playoff was never a way to actually make parity in CFB, just a money grab. The same teams were always going to be ranked highest and get into final 4. CFB is always about the rich getting richer and the best always stay on top, though they may have a few off years the top teams usually have remained the same through the decades.
And though depth is key, I think depth with game experience is more important. Because every team in the final 4 will pretty much have a roster littered with former 4 and 5 stars studs in HS, that means nothing if the kids haven't played in an actual college game. If injuries lead to a (hypothetical) Dashawn Hand vs Taylor Decker battle, then Alabama is screwed, no matter that he was a top HS player.
