2015 Offense Discussion

Yeah, as good as an OL coach Warriner is, he needs to go back to more of a supporting role when it comes to coordinating. I doubt he's going to do that though. I imagine he's gone after this year.
I think Warriner as an OC was a failed experiment. It's like Muschamp as a HC at Florida. For some guys the ceiling isn't HC or OC, it's position coach. Like Larry Johnson seems to know he's a top defensive line coach and is happy with that. I think Warriner will need to decide if he wants to coach the best o line in the country, or if he wants to or if he wants to lead a mediocre offense as the coordinator. Also don't think Beck is the right guy.

The weird thing is he did a pretty damn good job at Kansas. I believe they set a bunch of program records while he was their OC (Kansas is awful, but it was still 37 ppg so pretty impressive). At OSU though, yes it was a failed experiment.

If I could understand one thing, it would be what happened to Samuel this season. After looking great as a backup as an RB, he disappeared form that role and only got 1-2 touches a game as a WR. Same with Braxton. Where were the screens and short passes? I think they did one. Complete waste of talent.

Ed was QB's Coach during that time......

Cardale, JT, Mike T, Jalin, Vannett, and Zeke among others, but especially Braxton - has there ever been a better case of doing so little with so much?

Where is the imagination that exploits that embarrassment of riches? What a tremendous waste someone orchestrated with the weapons they had to employ. It would be interesting to know the thinking that caused it - and whose thinking it was.

That's a good point. Assuming Beck is gone and Warinner still wants to be an OC... is putting him on QBs/OC an option? And then hiring another OLine guy?
I don't know what I think about that, but we're probably giving him some more opportunity. Would love it if he became the offense' Larry Johnson though. Being the best position coach isn't a bad gig.

They could have easily run a reverse last night with the way Sparty was pursuing...with Jalin there could gave been a pass off of it....

They only ran 45 plays and 60% of them were Zeke and Barrett into a brick wall over and over again. They could have run just about anything else and had a statistically higher chance of success.

Is there a screen in the playbook? Can Vannett run 7-8 yards over the middle on 2nd down instead of a 5 yard out on 3rd and 10?

I keep harping on it but this is why Beck needs to be gone as soon as OSU plays its final game. Naysayers will say "Tom Herman's first year wasn't exactly stellar" but Tom Herman didn't have arguably the most talented offensive roster since Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush were causing havoc on those loaded USC squads. Hell this team might be even more talented on paper than that 2005 USC team yet Beck found a way to get absolutely embarrassed by a depleted Michigan State defense. AT HOME. This is one of the few times where Buckeye Nation is justified in losing their collective shit. It's one thing if this team could only muster 132 total yards against Alabama or another Top 10 D. But to a 50th ranked MSU defense with a decimated back seven? A MSU defense who's let almost every team they've played this year pass all over them including fucking Rutgers? RUTGERS?! Shiiiit son.

Very true, the middle was open all night. Just about everything seemed to go to the short side of the field, opening anything up to the backside, reverse, throwback, etc.

I recall Urban's offenses at Florida threatening the perimeter more. I also recall a bit more of the triple option/shovel option as well.

I get that the weather was no where near ideal in the first half and its a bit risky, but I refuse to believe a few well timed fly sweeps couldn't have at least stopped Sparty from pinching their line down
and daring us to beat them outside.
