I'm in agreement that Warinner should be promoted to the full time play caller. I also think that OSU should make a play for East Carolina OC Lincoln Riley in a co-OC/QB/PGC type role. He nearly left ECU to become QB coach at Notre Dame last year so I think he could be had in the name of career advancement despite losing the reigns of the offense. He's also got Texas ties and comes from a coaching lineage (Mike Leach) familiar with fast tempo.

I also think TCU co-OC Sonny Cumbie would be a great fit, for essentially all the same reasons as Riley.

I am now and always have been a great proponent of "trusting the coaches". In the case of Urban Meyer hiring an offensive coordinator, I can't imagine trusting any other coach with any other job more.

I don't care if I've never heard of him. I don't care if he's 80. I don't care if his offense is terrible at his current job. I don't care if it ends up being a woman.

Urban Meyer will hire an offensive coordinator and I will celebrate.

Tim Beck was one of the first names out there for Ohio State. Highly thought of, but improvement of NEB QBs was iffy.

Ehhhh.

But Beck was WR coach at Kansas when Warinner was OC. Originally from Youngstown. If true, that probably confirms Warinner as OC.

No matter who Meyer hired 2 things true: 1) Warriner was gonna be the play caller and 2) OSU is gonna run the Meyer O. Not changing

true but Herman was given a pass for working with crappy talent at Iowa St...

Beck has only been a QB coach since 2011. Taylor Martinez broke out in 2010. His numbers in 2011 dropped.

I believe this was a MAJOR factor:

Nebraska isn't really a place that attracts big time recruits.

You can't use a one year drop off by Martinez against Beck. Any player, no matter the skill set, can have a down year. I'm not sure in 2011 if his receiving corps was young, maybe a bad O-Line, etc?

Again, I'll reserve judgement to Meyer. He has assembled a great group of coaches here - a cast of National Championship calibur coaches...

Not sure what to make of his career on the whole, wasn't very impressed with his playcalling at Nebraska... but he's basically going to be a position coach at Ohio State.
I trust Urban and Warriner know what they're doing.

Edit: Has also spent some time coaching Texas HS. I have a feeling that factors in a bit.

IIRC, Martinez was error prone (fumbles, sacks taken, interceptions). His throwing mechanics is one of the worst I've ever seen in the FBS.
