8 waters it down and devalues the regular season. I like a conference champion being left out, it keeps the teams hungry. No one should ever coast to a playoff. I'd rather have one or two pissed off fan bases than to have a bunch of two loss teams-or worse play in the playoff. Having the conference championship games act as play in games is good enough for me.

I look at it from the point that I would rather see the back load of a playoff system comprise our schedule instead of playing lesser teams at the front of the season. There are enough quality teams to make an 8 team playoff doable. Seems like everybody runs their jib about strength of schedule and then turns around and reschedules with way lesser teams in their state or area. Although Appalachia State pulled off one for the ages, most of those early season games are walkovers that sell tickets and make money the objective instead of adding much to the resume. Get rid of the filler. Play the best teams out there to get better, IMHO.

At least Appy St. was defending 1AA national champions. Some of these schools play 1AA teams with losing records.

Oregon's only competition in the PAC North next year would be Washington and they aren't good enough.

The PAC South is U$C and that's about it. fUCLA loses everyone. It's entirely possible they would win the PAC 12 with mariota for another year.

UFM's first year was 2012.
I would argue Arizona State is going to be a very good team next year, better than Oregon at least.

Just rewatched the game. Funny thing I realized while watching. With JT at QB we almost always had a wildcat package we implemented, either with JM or DW. Everyone assumed this would increase once JT went down...yet we didn't do wildcat once in the final three games if I IIRC. I wonder what exactly it was about Jones that kept them from doing this. Even if they did it, and I just forget it, they definitely didn't much, nor did they ever in the NCG.
That's a great point. When JT went down lots of people and experts were talking about using a Wildcat but that never came into play.
