Game Thread 2015 National Championship Game: (2) Oregon vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 12th @ 8:30p ET, ESPN

ESPiN might have missed it, but Emirates airline knew exactly who was going to win. They have a shot from The Game 2013 and talk a bit about it. Then they talk about the playoffs and championship game. Beautiful to see the Buckeyes like that. And, yes, I was wearing my NC gear. OK, it's 2002 gear, but it's still Buckeye gear!

This team played 15 (!) games this year and somehow it still doesn't feel like I got enough of it.

Is this the most number of games a team has played in one season (tied with Oregon, of course)? I know that before 2003, teams could play a fancy "kick-off classic"-type game. Any way to play more than 15 games in a season before this?

Edit: never mind, I found this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_BYU_Cougars_football_team

BYU was able to play 15 games because of NCAA rules that are no longer in place. Firstly, a team was able to play a designated "kickoff" opening game and not have it count against the allowed game total, then they played at Hawaii which didn't count against the allowed total. That allowed BYU to play 13 regular season games. They then played a conference championship game and a bowl game in the Cotton Bowl Classic bringing the total to 15 games.

During the 2002 and 2003 seasons teams were allowed to schedule 12 games as well as a week one game. As a result the 2003 Kansas State Wildcats became only the second team to play a 15 game season with an 11–4 record.

The kickoff game exemption was eliminated in 2005, but the Hawaii exemption remains in place.

Beginning in 2014 it will again be possible for teams to play a 15 game schedule without facing Hawaii because of the 4 team playoff system.

I guess I was wrong with the year - the kickoff classic thing must have been eliminated in 2005.

Not that it matters now, but it seems we rarely get a replay go our why, or we're always scratching our heads why certain plays weren't reviewed..

I present another one, Mike THomas

I just watched the play on my TV. Sorry, he was in the air when he caught the ball.
Coqui is right. Although the screencap appears to show Thomas about to put his left foot down in the end zone, in real life he didn't and his right foot landed just out of the end zone.

Not that it especially matters, and maybe the screen capture is misleading, but to me the screen cap doesn't appear to show Thomas about to put his left foot down in the endzone, it appears to show Thomas with his foot down in the endzone.

There's a slight shadow. His foot is about six inches or so from the turf.

For sure. No chance that was a touchdown. Thought it might be close in person, but the replay was definitive -- Not close to getting the foot down.

Nope. Not only is the left leg in question not down, but that is the closest it gets to the turf. That leg is in the process of flying upward as the right leg is about to come down, eventually out of bounds before touching. It was a good call.
