As we wait for the Sugar Bowl I thought I would bring up the topic of our two deep next year at LB. I think we have a solid group with Perry, Kwon and Lee as starters but I would not be surprised to see some rotation in 2015 much like we saw with Grant and Kwon this year. We have some significant talent at LB. Who do you see as our two deep next year at:
Will
Mike
Sam

unfortunately I don't see Kyle berger since we dont know how he'll recover. I'm also going to guess Sam Hubbard is either a DE r TE. So here's my 2 deep (I think the Will and Sam actually flipped when Ash came, so I may have those backwards):

W: Lee, Booker
M: Raekwon, ???
S: Perry, ???

The guys who would fill it out would be Trey Johnson, Cam Williams, and the 3 incoming freshmen. Feel super confident on our starters, but due to transfer, injury, and relocation of guys over the past 2 classes, the depth isn't great yet. But will be in 1, maybe 2 more seasons.

Edit: and let's hope Perry doesn't leave early. That would suck.

Edit 2: forgot about Worley. He would be there too. Maybe to get more PT Booker would be the backup to Perry instead. Interested to see if any true freshman breaks the 2 deep. Could see Hilliard at least coming in as a pass rush specialist from the LB position.

We really have no idea of what the backup situation will look like. Starting is really easy to figure out ... probably.

I'm thinking not all of the underclass LBs currently on the roster will still be there in September 2015.

Any one know how Berger is progressing with his recovery? I really hope that he is able to fully recover and come back stronger than ever. I am not quite sold on C. Williams and so I would not be surprised to see Hilliard make the two deep behind Kwon. Gotta think Booker sees the field. My guess is Johnson fills in behind Perry. If the light comes on for Johnson he could be a nice replacement for Perry once he graduates. Really excited about Booker and Hilliard. Berger too, if he can get/stay healthy.

My Guess:

Lee, Booker
Kwon, Hilliard, Burger
Perry, Johnson (maybe Worely)

My guess:

Lee, Booker, Worley, T. Johnson
Kwon, Connor, Williams
Perry, Hilliard, Berger

Then redshirt Baker...he needs some time to learn the position and put on some lbs. Could be a special teams terror instantly though. I think Hilliard and Connor are too talented and advanced to be held off the field but you never know.

I've heard good things about Conner. Obviously, you think that he is more suited at MLB than Hilliard is. I would be interested in why you think this would be a better fit. I also see that you do not have high hopes for Johnson. Thoughts?

Josh, have these been nagging injuries or something more serious that I was not aware of? I remember having high hopes for him when he committed.
I don't think there has been anything career threatening, it's just that he's been banged up during a large portion of both seasons.
Any news on how Berger is doing with his recovery?
Last I heard was that he was on track but that's a tough road to hoe. I won't bet against Kyle.

Connor is going to be a field general here. We are going to have freaks at the linebacker position again all the way across and I can't wait!

Itd be hard for me not to think of Conner not in the top 2 at any LB position if he's coming in early. I honestly think Conner may start out the best among the 3 LBs we have Coming in for 2015.

Starters:
WLB: Perry
MLB: McMillen
SAM: Lee

Backups:
WLB: Booker, Worley
MLB: Conner
SAM: Hilliard, Berger

I like Connor's size, play recognition, leadership, and movement in traffic in the middle of the field. Sheds blocks extremely well also. Now Hilliard has many of those traits as well and I could certainly see him inside but in my books, I like Hilliard outside and Connor inside. Either way, the coaches will sort that out and we will be fine either way...Connor could be a beast at SAM also.

Johnson just has not been healthy and I have not seen much from him when he has actually hit the field. He will need to get healthy asap because it is about make or break time for him. Lee is playing lights out where Johnson would play, then you have an influx of Worley, Berger, Booker, Hilliard, Baker, etc. all ready to potentially compete for the backup spot to Lee. Just seems he will be fighting an uphill battle and will need to bring his A game.

Booker, Hilliard, Conner, Berger...WOW! Future is definitely bright!
