"Those nine units — quarterback, running back, receivers, tight ends, offensive line, defensive line, linebackers, cornerbacks and safeties"
but that can't be right.. cuz special teams has to be one of them
9 assistant coaches - Warriner, Beck, Alford, Hinton, Smith, Fickell, Ash, Johnson, Coombs
corners, safeties, specialists
A coach can be involved with multiple units, and multiple coaches can be involved with a unit (see Meyer's direct involvement with special teams). The nine units are just that: Units.9 Units Strong
So you are saying the 9 Units are:
1) Warriner: O-Line men
2) Beck: QBs
3) Alford: RBs
4) Hinton: TEs & FBs
5) Smith: WRs
6) Fickell: LBs
7) Ash: Safeties
8) Johnson: D-Line men
9) Coombs: CBs & Special Teams
per: http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/coaches.html
Makes sense to me; however, does everyone agree with that?
1. QBs
2. RBs
3. WRs
4. O-Line men
5. D-Line men
6. LBs
7. CBs
8. Safeties
9. Special teamers (kickers, holders, punters, and long snappers
Or is it this?
He did say that about the specialists being a half unit. QB, RB, TE, WR, OL, DL, LB, CB, & S.I thought Coach Marrotti handed over 9.5 keys to the 2015 Ohio State Buckeye Machine to Coach Meyer in the opening Scarlet and Gray Days and I thought he said the "half key" was the specialists.

"My dream — we have nine units within our program — if you can take care of your unit, your nine coaches that we pay good money to, that are highly-trained elite coaches, and my job is to make sure the purpose is very clear, if I go into a game as the head coach of Ohio State and my units are operating at max — all nine are going — I think we win every game that we’ll ever play at Ohio State. It’s been true so far."
The military uses small-unit cohesion. Meyer has talked about it often. He has split his team up into nine units, each assistant coach is in charge of a unit. Ohio State won a national title because the Buckeyes, Meyer will tell you, played nine units strong at the end of the season.
"Before a game, if I can stick by hand in the air, say 'One, two, three, showtime,' and I have nine arms, nine unit leaders grab my arm, I know there aren't many teams in the country that can beat us."

http://www.scout.com/college/ohio-state/story/1500898-e-r-o-culture-takes-hold-at-ohio-stateWhen it comes to getting better performance from each of the team’s nine position groups, Kight told Meyer that he needed to look at his assistant coaches – or as they have now become known, unit leaders.
Makes sense...That's just what I see when I read Coach Meyer's quote about his goals here:
http://theozone.net/Ohio-State/Foot...Strong-is-the-Goal-Everything-Else-is-Inertia
A big part of this philosophy is the role of "unit leaders", and when you consider that he has 9 assistant coaches, it seems to fit.
