2014 Week 1 B1G FB Open Thread

The Big 10 has a coaching problem ..Meyer Dantonio...maybe Franklin Ferentz..the rest are bad or a Joke(Beckman)
It's not just coaching it's recruiting too...how crappy has your QB recruiting been that your best option before a true freshman is a converted safety that played 1 year at QB in high school

It's been that way for the past 10-15 years. Maybe longer.

Coaching is the problem that fixes the recruiting which fixes the talent gap.

The unanswered question is when do the B1G school presidents and AD's get to the point where they put enough emphasis on it to ensure the those kind of coaching hires happen?

The B1G is such a cash cow and so respected academically that I don't think you will ever see the focus put on athletics that it would take to out do the SEC.

Wiscy's QB recruiting has been a dumpster fire for years. It's why Bert was scouting free agent QBs his last couple of seasons before sacrificing himself to the SEC.

Recruiting will continue to be a problem for the B1G as long as southern powers are signing 30-35 kids a class and simply "cutting" the ones that aren't panning out...the same kids that don't pan out up here occupy a scholly for 4 years. But, that's a discussion for another thread. Once again, fuck Bucky and fuck the nerds. And while I'm handing 'em out...fuck m*ch*g*n and that sick, twisted cult in rhythmic slappy valley.

Inability to oversign isn't the reason Wisconsin is that poor at QB. They should do better than that.

No argument there. Bert got lazy with QB recruiting simply opting to sign grad students his last couple of years. But SEC teams are typically very deep. And being able to selectively pick from 30-35 kids to stock your bench certainly aids that.

Side note- I really dug Illinois' uniforms yesterday. Is that their new look, or was that uniform a one-off?

Coaching is recruiting..hell Beckman can't get the best players in downstate Illinois much less Chicago.
I could be wrong, but if IIRC, Illinois didn't sign one of Illinois' top 10 recruits last year. Their recruiting is miserable, although it looks like they may have snagged a couple of pretty good receivers in that class (Dudek/Allison).

Following last night's game, health departments across America have issued a revised version of one of their posters to ensure immediate recognition by the general population:

Not to be outdone, Lifetime Channel even rushed a TV movie into production overnight, and is airing it today:

QBs that can run are good. QBs that can pass are better.

Ohio St had a QB that had not taken a competitive snap in over two years go 12 of 15 for over 200 yards.

We also played a mediocre defense. Badgers literally had no one to throw it to. When you have a QB as bad as McEvoy, mixed with a bunch of scrub WRs, its a recipe for disaster.

Basically, I'm saying its silly to compare their respective performances. If McEvoy had our WR corps, I think he would of done MUCH better.
