2014 TSUN Shenanigans and Arguments

That's probably true, but if he can assemble a staff, they should be able to land some guys that will just be swept up in all of the hype. That's not gonna happen if the kids don't know who their position coaches are gonna be, though,

Hoke assembled a class pretty quickly in 2011 and got a number of commits in the weeks leading up to NLOID. If you remember, the scUM fans were all like "How does he do it?!?!?!?" and thought he was some kind of recruiting God. What was lost in their hysteria was that he was flipping kids from Minnesota, Indiana, and landing a bunch of "meh" 2* and 3* kids. BP was quick to point this out and said he was making a mistake taking on a bunch of "sleeper" kids when he should just bank those schollies and use them in 2012 when he and his staff had more footing. As has often (okay, pretty much always) been the case, BP was right. Many of those kids washed out, and very few of them contributed at all. It's probably a big reason for their struggles these past two seasons as that 2011 class was largely a disaster full of wasted scholarships.

I would say that the lack of player development in the 2011-2014 classes was the biggest problem.

Lack of staff is going to continue to hurt him. At my gym there's a scUM fan I sometimes talk to, and the day After the sugar bowl he walked up to me with his chest out and said "you know a bunch of recruits are going to visit because Harbaugh is in", I just looked at him and shook my head. Having a HC is nice, but position coaches seal deals because that's who the kids will actually spend most of their time with. Harbaugh isn't going to sell every single recruit by himself. But whatever, when they're this low they need something to hang their hat on, regardless of how much of a facade it is

Hopefully they will have some official hires soon. The stalker fans have reported Drevno, Durkin, Tolbert, and Morton all have UM email addresses now.

Fred Jackson hasn't developed a backup tailback in decades and infrequently developed a starter.

Funk was bad enough that RR's OL recruiting and development looked strong by comparison.
I for one am sad to see him go... They shoulda kept him/them around to try to teach these young men more.

Coaches not jumping on board seems to indicate they are more in line with OSU fans than UM regarding Harbaugh's tenure as HC.

That is to say, they must be expecting to be on the job market again in 2-3 years if they went to UM and would rather just stay put.

I think a lot of coaches realize it's a rebuilding project. 6 years scUM has had no direction for recruiting, play style or anything. Going over there, you make that program successful, you are a legend, you don't, and well, you set yourself back. Not everyone is a Lane Kiffin who can screw up everything he touches and still get a good job afterwards.

Since Urban was hired:

tOSU: 34-3, 23-0 vs B1G
scUM: 20-17, 12-11 vs B1G

Just as it should be. Fuck m*ch*g*n right in the p*ssy.
Update:
tOSU: 37-3, 24-0 vs B1G
scUM: 20-18, 12-12 vs B1G

Since Hairball was hired:

tOSU: 1-0, Sugar Bowl victory over nation's #1 team, about to play for a National Title
scUM: Sitting at home, still trying to assemble a coaching staff

Marrow didn't turn down Michigan. They cooled on him.
Sam Webb said:
1.) He has missed on one coach. ONE! Shannon Turley. And even Turley wasn't totally a miss. The guy had agreed to become Michigan's strength coach before changing his mind. It happens.

2.) I do not think Michigan missed on Vince Marrow. Maybe he would have wound up getting offered the job officially (to me, being offered a job means you've been told a contract is on the table for you to accept (or at the very least a discussion about terms has taken place)... and that didn't happen.). I do NOT think that Bill Greene's reporting was wrong. I think he reported what Marrow told him. I'm just saying you can't turn down something that technically wasn't on the table yet. Maybe it was going to be eventually... and the fact that he began recruiting for Michigan before an official tender was on the table suggests that it was likely... but it's being reported that Michigan was turned down. Simply put... that did NOT happen.

3:30 ADDENDUM... this is the text from a reply farther down in this thread the further clarifies my position: I've been very consistent on this topic... even when prevalent scuttlebutt had him likely joining the staff. I said subtly here on the site and much more explicitly off the board (ask both Allen and Bill) that I believed the talk of an offer the day he was interviewed and the word that he was given the weekend to mull things over both to be embellishments. Maybe he was going to be offered this week? I can't tell you that that wasn't going to happen. But you know me well enough to know I'm not the sour grapes type. I've never done that and I'm not starting now. So I'm not saying this to suggest Marrow wouldn't have been a good pick up (I think he would have been an absolute force on the recruiting trail). But I think what happened with him is an example of extreme posturing. I won't go into more detail on the matter because I'm not interested in casting aspersions his way. I don't think he is a bad guy. I'm just trying to give you an accurate view of what took place so you know where Michigan really whiffed and where it didn't.

Would Michigan have whiffed on Marrow if they had thrown down the type of offer to him that it threw down to Shannon Turley? It's possible, but I doubt it.

Here's an entertaining argument on whether Harbaugh can go 37-3 over the next 3 years. In the previous page, Wolvy claims
Ever since their run in 2002 that ended with the NC win over Miami, year in and year out I watch them and think to myself "I've never seen so many teams shoot themselves in the foot against osu." Opponents continually shti the bed vs osu and it is mind boggling. You can probably go back every season for the last decade and circle 2-3 games they should have lost if not for the other team gifting them game.
So apparently, our domination has more to do with opponents' mistakes than our play...
