Tressel was a proven commodity in the I-AA ranks before getting the OSU job. Lots of folks at the time scoffed at whether or not he was "proven", but Tressel showed that true coaching skills shows through regardless of football division. If Michigan should indeed go after a proven I-AA (FCS) head coach, then it could very well prove more successful than their recent hiring of I-A (FBS) head coaches...They can't afford to go after "the next Tressel." It has to be a proven commodity in my IMO.
I don't think that's necessarily true. Harbaugh could very well leverage scUM for a raise. He's done in SF, but he's still under contract, and having scUM as leverage could help him in getting a better contract with his next employer. Everybody at scUM is conveniently forgetting he is under contract through next year. He's not leaving the NFL. SF will negotiate an extension and trade him before they let him walk for nothing. Some NFL team, be it the Jets, Chicago, Oakland, or Miami will give him GM power in addition to his coaching duties. With his track record, every NFL team with a vacancy will throw buckets of money that scUM cannot match at him. Plus, do you really think a competitive guy like Harbaugh is bailing on the NFL without his Super Bowl Ring after coming so close? After his own brother won one? Come on. No way he passes that up to go back to college and spend his days travelling around the country recruiting 16-18 year old kids. They can't afford to go after "the next Tressel." I think we'll know just how serious the Harbaugh saga is after this weekend. If there is no news about a coach come Monday afternoon, then it would seem obvious they are waiting until the NFL season is over to officially offer him the job. One has to think if they are willing to wait 4 weeks to make an offer, there is a reasonable expectation he would take the job.
I find it hard to believe Harbaugh would just leave them hanging in the wind for 4 weeks just to say "no thanks." He could clear everything up with one official press release saying he is not a candidate. Until that happens, I'm simply Lloyd Christmas

Besides that, why do scUM fans feel he feels some sense of obligation to m*ch*g*n? He's had very public spats with them, and I've never heard him saying anything at all about m*ch*g*n. Ain't happening.

ftfy, jimmy boy is way too competitive and ego driven to let that stand. he might not get another shot to beat john in the big one, but he's not done till he's equalled or bettered john.Plus, do you really think a competitive guy like Harbaugh is bailing on the NFL without his Super Bowl Ring after coming so close? After his own brotherwon onebeat him for one?
And you should expect nothing less given the absolute embarrassment their last two searches were.I really have no idea. I'm not really getting my hopes up, but they (UM) have been ridiculously hush hush about anything since Hoke was let go I have no idea who they are even looking at. It's all fodder for now. But I am interested to see what happens.

didn't bike "h2 0-4" hart kick hairball out of the michigan man club after the academics smack?
This is spot on. There's a reason he's about to be run out of SF despite winning over 70% of his games, making a SB, and three straight conference championship game appearances...he's an intolerable asshole. You underestimate just how of much of a dick Harbaugh has always been. i could see him jerking UM around like that just because of some real or imagined decade-old slight from someone in their administration. Excellent coach, but he always has been, is, and always will be an epic a-hole.
