2013 Week 9 B1G FB Open Thread

Oh its recruiting that makes teams great, huh? You do realize OSU and scUM finished #1/#2 in national recruiting last year.

Talent? Didn't I already look up for you the talent the B1G has nationally versus the Miami players you THOUGHT were good? lol.

So why are teams like Florida, SC, Notre Dame, Georgia, Ole Miss, Washington, USC, Pitt, etc. not in the top 5, top 10, or even a dominant team this year? Since its all about recruiting.

Im not looking at it with bias. Im looking at it in STATS. Do you know what stats are? They are the things that strip away peoples emotions and feelings and tell the story like it is.

Fact - SEC teams do NOT field good defenses:
#118 TAMU
#92 Kentucky
#88 Auburn
#75 Tenn
#63 Ole Miss

#57 Georgia
#56 Arkansas
#50 Missouri
#43 LSU
#35 Miss St

#36 Vandy
#21 South Carolina
#4 Florida
#5 Alabama

Again. You want to talk about inflation and overrated? Highlighted above are the defenses this "amazing" and "explosive" Alabama team will have/has faced all season long. Not one conference opponent inside the top 35 nationally!

So please, stop telling me how great the SEC is when their offenses are going up against scrubs.

I don't know, Colorado State is pretty badass.

No, it's not.

Here is the SEC record since the start of the BCS era in 1998:

SEC vs. PAC-12 regular season: 10-12
SEC vs. PAC-12 bowl games: 1-0
SEC vs. Big 12 regular season: 6-10
SEC vs. Big 12 bowl games: 21-8
SEC vs. ACC regular season: 42-36
SEC vs. ACC bowl games: 16-9
SEC vs. Big 10 regular season: 7-4
SEC vs. Big 10 bowl games: 19-19

SEC vs. Big East regular season: 16-15
SEC vs. Big East bowl game: 3-8

Which conference has been better than the SEC since the BCS era?

Also doesn't help that the Big TEN has won 1.5 national championships in the last 40 some years.

In terms of NC's or BCS Bowl wins?

BCS Bowl era havent been dominated by conferences as much as teams.

Ohio State, USC, Florida, Texas have all have impressive streaks. But you can't just say "the SEC has had the most NC's so they are the best overall." That wouldn't mean OVERALL, that would only hold up if the criteria was NC's only.

I don't think anyone disputes that SEC has had impressive results in the last ~10 years.
However, it seems they're skating largely on that reputation this year. I watch their games, and I'm just not impressed with what I'm seeing.
Alabama is the real deal, but the argument that they're playing a "super hard tough schedule" only works if you're going off preseason polls. At least up to this point. LSU and Auburn are still down the road; though neither is the kind of "dominant" that is usually associated with their reputation.

You have no clue, you're such a a homer, you're not even worth arguing with.

No one is saying they haven't had some great teams. No one is saying they suck. What I'm saying is their top to bottom awesomeness is highly exaggerated. When was the last time TAMU or Mizzou did this well in the Big 12? Why is it that when the B1G adds a national power with someone recent success, they get exposed, yet the mighty, untouchable SEC adds two middling Big 12 teams that hadn't won but a couple conf titles in 30 years and they're competing for titles by year two.
