2013 Week 8 CFB Open Thread

I think they knew how to win when they played South Carolina. The Gamecocks are just a better team than Louisville.

UCF had South Carolina and just couldn't finish. Flat out saying that South Carolina is better than anyone in the top 15 is questionable at best.

Teams actually have to win some of these type games before you can say they know how to. Tonight was a good start, beating PSU, meh.

If you're referring to Ohio State's BCS title chances, Louisville was never a threat.

Any "NC" dreams depend on teams like Oregon, Alabama, and the winner of Clemson/Florida State losing. Oh yeah, and OSU actually defeating one of those teams in January.

Louisville was always a longer shot than OSU.
all of which is stuff to worry about later after osu learns to play like a great team and not a good one.

Meh, I'm not even thinking about the NC at this point, because I know they're not playing up to that level yet (though I think they can, they just haven't taken that step up), but being undefeated...still a big thing. Who doesn't like a 0 in the loss column?

You obviously put more stock in polls than I do. Louisville being ranked in the top 10 was questionable. They weren't impressive late last regular season, and hadn't beaten anyone worth a crap this season. They were there because they won a bowl game against a Florida team that wasn't nearly as excited to be there, and hasn't fared too well against top opponents under Muschamp.

I'll take South Carolina over Louisville anywhere, anytime.

I agree.

I think looking at every game as "how does this help OSU win the NC" - as some here are clearly doing - is an empty exercise, unless you've managed to convince yourself that the Buckeyes would beat Oregon or Alabama today. I've yet to see a performance that convinces me it would be a likely outcome.

I'm only concerned about the Buckeyes. I'm glad to have the winning streak, but I don't see a top 5 team at the moment. Top 10, yes. Top 5, not yet.

Agree 100%. There's a certain portion of our fanbase that looks at most seasons as "NC or bust." That attitude, to me, greatly reduces the enjoyment one takes from any given season. Especially considering that tOSU has ONE national title in the last 4 decades.

To me, it's one week at a time, win the B1G, beat scUM and anything else is gravy. We're in the middle of an unprecedented run of success here dating back over a decade now. We have a "rock star" coach who is recruiting magnificent players. We have, arguably, the most exciting offense we've ever seen here. We've won 18 games in a row and counting. Considering how rapidly things could have gone in the toilet after tatgate, and how tOSU emerged just as strong as, maybe stronger, than before is remarkable. Just live in the moment and enjoy each win. Everything else will sort itself out.

Yes I'm completely invested the polls, they tell you exactly how good a team is. IMO South Carolina doesn't even look as good as they did last year when they beat scUM. I certainly wasn't all that impressed then. As far as Louisville goes, I don't know if I'd call them a top 15 team or not but even at 16 I don't think they are 13 spots behind Clemson which is who they remind me of. Do you really think South Carolina would be any more "up" than Florida was? Will you be taking South Carolina over Tennecheat today?

And a top 10 team is capable of beating an Alabama or Oregon on any given day in my mind. Especially giving Urban weeks to prepare. Look out Oregon.
