perfect. time of possession in this game mirrored that of the Rose Bowl too: Bucks, 42 minutes, Ducks 18.

Yep. Despite the hype from ESPiN and the rest of the tools errr umm experts out there, until Oregon beats teams built like Stanford is built (which is the exact way to beat teams like Oregon), they aren't anything more than a perennial top 10-15 team that beats the dogshit out of Nicholls State and low-tier BCS schools. Basically, they're Kansas State in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Serious question- combined, how many times has Oklahoma and Oregon beaten a team worth a damn in a "big game" over the past decade?

This doesn't really answer your question, but Oregon has only been relevent on the college football landscape for 5 or 6 years, in as much as they could even think of sniffing a national championship. But in that time, they've managed to lose both bowl games that they played in where they weren't faced with another conference's second best team(tOSU and Auburn) and they typically shit the bed against either Stanford, USC and of all teams Cal.

Oklahoma has actually sort dominated the Red River Shootut over that time I think, but they pissed down their legs agains aTm a few times if I recall and are a 4-6 in bowl games. They played Oregon once and won, and one of those games was against Conneticut, another against Iowa, so, yeah.

They both have has their stuggles with mighty Boise St.:rofl::rofl:

But yeah, the Big Ten is the only conference with teams that deserve to get [Mark May] on constantly.

OU in the last decade:
vs. ranked teams: 29-19
vs. top 10 teams: 7-11(3 of those are against Texas, and Mack Brown is a southern-fried John Cooper when it comes to OU)
vs top 5 teams: 4-8 (3 against Texas)

Oregon seems to drop one or two games against strong teams a year...
2013 Stanford
2012 Stanford
2011 USC, LSU (hammered)
2010 Auburn
2009 Boysee, tOSU

What do all of those teams have in common: strong defenses.

In fairness, they have knocked off a few strong teams over the last 5 years...

2013 (12)UCLA, (16)UW (though they're free-falling since)
2012 (7)KSU, (16)Oregon St
2011 (9)Wiscy, (3)Stanford
2010 (9)Stanford, (24)Oregon St, (24)USC (who were really struggling)

Oregon seems to fare better overall, but are good for a clunker or two every year when facing a strong defensive team. Texas is still a big game for OU like scUM is for us, but take that game away, and they're not very good against top-10 foes. A couple of those wins against "top-5/10" teams were early on against teams that proved to be quite overrated at the time.

"Big Game" Bob hasn't really been that with any consistency in over a decade. Take away Mack Brown, and he's 2-7 vs top-5 (win against a very overrated at the time FSU and then #2 TTU in 2008) / 4-10 vs top-10 over the last decade by my very scientific calculations (sports-reference.com)

Weeks ago, one of the pundits said;"we've seen this before by Oregon. I'm not convinced that the first time they see a defense with a heartbeat, they lose." Well, guess what?
How many times does the national media have to see Oregon lose to a decent defense, that the media "gets it"?
And mighty Stanford("Do you think your team could play in the SEC, coach Shaw?"), lost at Utah weeks ago.
Oh, and by the way, Stanford has to play at USC next week!
