It's 'pogue' and it predates by many decades that silly bacronym that confused army types mistranslated.

FWIW the Division bands in the Marine Corps actually have combat responsibilities.

I know very well the derivation of pogue, poguie bait and the like. I type this from an "MWR" on a COP in a country that ends in "stan" and begins with "a". I digress...
