2013 Rose Bowl: Wisc +6.5 vs Stanford (ov/un 47.5) Jan 1st 5:00

they formed a pot leaf at Cal one year and then did a 420 formation.

they formed a penis, then the word NCUT.

they spelled out NO BALLZ at USC.

at the 1971 Rose Bowl, they spelled out Ohio State, then morphed it into OH SHIT.

they did a tribute to abortion, and formed a clothes hanger.

they did a tribute to Jayne Mansfield, and played "Saturday Night- I Ain't Got No Body."

they clowned the Patty Hearst kidnapping by forming the Hearst Burger (two buns and no patty)

and a whole lot more. they've been banned from several stadiums over the years. it's what happens when the students run the band.

It's really an odd thing. You think an institution like Stanford would want to put a respectable, well liked product out there if they're representing the university. They could easily put together a decent band, maybe not on the level of TBDBITL, but better than USC at least (Not hard to beat playing just one song all game). It's almost as if they succumb to the theory that any publicity is good publicity as Stanford's band is only well known for controversy and not great performance/execution.

Could be worse. They could make this:

Combine it with this:

Add this:

You get this:

FWIW, they actually ARE a good band. Just not traditional. They easily have 1000 songs in their repertoire, and regularly play around 100 in any given season.

And like I said, the band there is a club. It's run by the students.

True, I should say that they're a talented band, it's just that the first thing that comes to mind is "controversy" rather than "great performance" when you think Stanford band.

(And in 1982) the play that the Stanford band will always be remembered for:

I ran into Alvarez Monday night & I have to say he was absolutely the most relaxed coach going into a bowl game I've ever seen.

PS - Naysayers be damned the LSJUMB is awesome and features the best arrangement of the national anthem you will find in all of college banddom.

No they didn't.

PS LSJUMB was banned from Notre Dame stadium due to an overwrought female ND fan who assaulted the drum major and told him he was going to hell. Notre Dame fans of course had no issues with his lampooning of jews earlier in the show.

And it showed. That was the most conservative game plan I've seen in years. The criticisms of Alvarez as a coach reared their ugly head in this game. Too vanilla, not going for it on 4th when he should, etc. Plus, I was surprised Stave didn't come in once it was obvious Phillips was playing like he was 4'11".

Selective journalism at its finest. You'd think that someone who purports to be such an authority of the LSJUMB would have the decency to relay all the facts. Then again, that just might get in the way of your agenda.

From what I could see Barry had little to do with the actual play calling.
