Just keep winning?Since Ohio State started its current 22 game winning streak, the following has occurred in the AP poll -
Week 1 of 2012 Ohio State was rated 18th in the nation, in week two they moved up to 14, and then up to number 12. Obviously, Ohio State won again in week 4, but was jumped by 4 teams (Kansas State, Florida, Notre Dame and Stanford), moving them back to 16. At 5-0 the Buckeyes moved up to 14 and then, in moving to 6-0 Ohio State moved up to 12 - and actually jumped 1 loss USC. Again the Bucks win and move up... this time to 8th. In the next week, the Buckeyes move up to seventh, but are jumped by 1 loss LSU on the way. The following week, Ohio State fails to lose yest again and is jumped by a 1 loss Oklahoma and an undefeated Oregon State team putting Ohio State at 9th. They move up to 6th the next week, but then in the following week are placed in a tie with Georgia for 5th, Georgia jumps OSU the following week. Georgia was a one loss team, by the way. Ohio State, as you know, was still undefeated. But, wait.. remember when Bama lost? Yeah.. they stayed in front of Ohio State. Thus, there were two 1 loss teams in front of Ohio State at this time. Bama and Georgia. The Buckeyes did not get jumped again the rest of the season, moving to 4 the next week, and finally to number 3.
Ohio State begins 2013 as the number 2 team in the nation. But, voters were terribly impressed with Oregon beating Nicholls State 66-3, so Oregon jumped Ohio State. The next week, Clemson took it's turn abusing a sister of the poor (South Carolina St, 52-13) to jump the Buckeyes. Now rated fourth, the Buckeyes have remained in this same position for the following 5 weeks. You may recall Ohio State winning 76-0 against Florida A&M. Sadly voters weren't nearly as impressed with that as Oregon's blasting of Nicholls State or Clemson's 39 point victory over S. Carolina State. In any case, while the Buckeyes stayed 4th, they were then jumped by Florida State after week 9. Three weeks later, Ohio State moved up to three. Last week, they were passed by Baylor.
In winning 22 games in a row, the Buckeyes have been jumped by 12 teams, or 13 if you wanted to count Alabama losing and staying in front of Ohio State. Of the teams which jumped Ohio State three of them had a loss while Ohio State had none. 4 teams, if you count Alabama 2012. Each of those 1 loss teams hails from the SEC, except Oklahoma which jumped the Buckeyes in week 9 of 2012.
