2013 Preseason and regular polls

I'm fine with that. We haven't proven much (yet) However the top four being all SEC?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we finish #3 in the country last year, are in our second year under a new coach (which typically shows improvement), and have a returning Heisman caliber starting QB?

Or maybe not.

And what have the teams ranked above us, not named Alabama, proved?

Browsing through the blog, it's obviously very homerish, and not very credible. But I thought I'd post it for the amusement.

Some other predictions from Sparty homer:
Braxton Miller as his #7 best Heisman candidate... Taylor Martinez was his #3.
Wisconsin winning the Leaders division.
Five MSU players on preseason Big Ten first-team defense... no Bradley Roby.
Zero Buckeyes on Big Ten first team offense.

Yes to all that. But this is a preseason poll where we have to prove we didn't lose our D-line. I know this isn't how it normally happens, but once we start proving there's no drop off, and once our offense proves the production we plan on having actually is there, we should increase in ranking.

That's all I meant by that.

Do you agree that scUM should be ranked behind Sparty? Not me.

Homer Sparty being Sparty.

I just meant I'm fine with us not being in the top 10 until we prove ourselves. Then I'll complain if we weren't. Who is above of or behind us is irrelevant to what I was trying to say.

This is an interesting poll. Can't say that I disagree very much with their analysis, although I'd move us up one spot and Kentucky seems WAY too highly rated. Alabama seems a bit low too, considering the championships that state has recently.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...all-50-states-by-their-college-football-teams

I guess the more I think about this, the more I get convinced that Texas does NOT deserve to be #1. And by the way, if this is the wrong thread for this type of ranking, then I apologize and please move it. But, the article CLEARLY stated that the rankings are NOT determined by the number of schools and is based on college football teams performance in the 2012 season.

So, looking at the top 3 states in their poll:

Ohio:
Ohio State (12-0)
Kent State (11-3)
Cincinnati (10-3)
Ohio (9-4)
Toledo (9-4)
Bowling Green (8-5)
Miami (4-8)
Akron (1-11)

Total Record: 64-38
Win percentage: 62.7%
State Population: 11.5 Million

California:
Stanford (12-2)
San Jose St (11-2)
Fresno St (9-4)
San Diego St (9-4)
UCLA (9-5)
USC (7-6)
Cal (3-9)

Total Record: 60-32
Win percentage: 65.2%
State Population: 38 Million

Texas:
Texas A&M (11-2)
Texas (9-4)
UTSA (8-4)
T. Tech (8-5)
Baylor (8-5)
TCU (7-6)
Rice (7-6)
SMU (7-6)
Houston (5-7)
N. Texas (4-8)
Texas St (4-8)
UTEP (3-9)

Total Record: 81-70
Win percentage: 53.6%
State Population: 26 Million

Basically, all I can come up with is Texas has no reason being number 1 in that poll. Don't you hate it when facts get in the way of good journalism??? BLARG! There could be an argument made for California, given their slightly better win percentage. But, consider that they have one fewer team in a state with over 3 times the number of people, and I'd say Ohio has a legit argument for the top spot on this poll. Of course, if Akron would have just played A LITTLE bit of football last year, my case would be closed completely.

Who in the blarg writes a win percentage as an actual percentage?
I question your true loyalties - to OSU or to math?

I'm not going to look up the article again right now, but I seem to remember that the state of Kentucky got its position (whatever position that was) based solely on the potential for Louisville and Kentucky. I seem to remember something like, "Kentucky has a new coach, and things are looking to improve for them". Some garbage crap poop like that. I didn't see the article state anything about 2012 records, but that is likely due to the fact that I didn't read the stinkin' words. (Maybe I read the pictures.) (How do you read pictures?) So if you're right and it was supposed to be based on the 2012 records, they didn't follow that for Kentucky.

Yeah - pretty much EVERY team that has a bowl ban wins all of their games. Ha. After all, the only reason any team ever loses is because of the pressure.

I have to admit, after their sanctions, I'm amazed Penn State went undefeated.

Also USC when they were under sanctions
