2013 Preseason and regular polls

Don't agree with that. FSU has left no doubt on the field. Their narrowest win was 14 points @ BC. No other team they've played has scored more than 17 points on their D. 1st in the country in scoring D and 2nd in the country in scoring O.

Their SoS isn't all-world either, but 11 of their 12 games were essentially over at halftime.
If it were OSU they wouldn't care about whether there was any doubt in the margin, I don't think. Margin of victory of OSU to a lot of these people is irrelevant, just look at their poll about what OSU has to do against MSU.

As far as FSU goes, their best win was against a Clemson team that just lost by 14 points. The ACC has been awful, and other than Clemson literally all the ACC teams that Florida State has played to this point have lost at least 3 games by double-digits. It amazes me how FSU having what's clearly a weaker schedule than OSU has not been grounds for attacking FSU while OSU's schedule has seemingly provided plenty of ammo for people to argue over.

The ACC has been the weakest of the power conferences, aside from the Big East. ACC champs 3-12 in BCS games, and yet there is no discussion whatsoever about the weakness of the ACC. If it were OSU playing in the ACC, you bet your ass they'd be bringing it up every day like they are now with the Big Ten.

2004 BCS standings with 3 undefeated's on December 4th, 2004.

USC .9770
Oklahoma .9681
Auburn .9331

Someone wanna explain why there are huge margins here but Ohio State is predicted to be .0004 over a 1 loss team today?

Because Blow-a-BCS-game Bob was still considered an elite coach and U$C was already considered one of the greatest national champions ever even though they hadn't won it yet.

It will be interesting to see if the BCS committee waits to see if Winston is charged since the Tallahassee police are in no rush to judgement while there are still games to be won. I can imagine the local booster group looking for some hush money. If he's charged it becomes a question of, does a one loss SEC team trump a no loss FSU with an alleged rapist at QB?

The prosecutor said earliest they'll decide is next monday - conveniently 1 day after bcs is decided.
And the media wont let it affect fsu. They have everything invested in keeping us out.

Remember when people were freaking out about Oregon, then Stanford, then Baylor, etc, and how all these teams were going to be undefeated and tOSU's D meant they were going to lose? I remember some poster giving stats and links trying to convince folks that there was almost zero chance that there would be more than two undefeated teams left after conference championship games?

Whomever that was, he looks like a fucking genius now.

Also, just want to say Dantonio is fuckin' awesome.

Slightly different formula used. IIRC, that was the last year that the AP ballot comprised part of the "human" element and was replaced by Harris Interactive. Not saying that explains it, just a different formula. Not much can explain certain things like bias and susceptibility to propaganda.

That was also the year that the formula was tweaked to not allow margin of victory - because the SEC bitched that because their conference was so tough the margins would be smaller and yadda yadda yadda....

MoV was purged for the 2002 season on the heels of Nebraska making the title game in '01. With the revised system the '01 game would've matched Miami and Oregon. Quality wins were also added then.

The changes in 2004 were getting rid of the QW and separate SoS component, because it was (finally) recognized that since QWs & SoS are already inherent in human rankings and computer systems, it was being applied twice by including them again as separate parts of a very complex formula. I'd bitched about that one from the very start. I think the current formula is probably the best, but would have left it with the AP/Coaches and not created a Harris poll. The agendas and regional bias of the AP poll are not fixed in the Harris poll, but at least with the AP we knew who the asshats were.

That's what it was....all that crap runs together honestly.

I think what people lose sight of is that the BCS was created to get the #1 & #2 teams to play each other in a bowl. That's it. There has never been a BCS formula (and they've had four distinct ones now) that's been perfect at picking the top two. For as long as college football has been played there have been teams left out for whatever political reasons and personal agendas people had, and those teams certainly felt they were the best team in the country, and typically had unblemished records to prove it.

New polls don't fix it. Single elimination playoffs aren't going to fix it either, because sometimes the best team doesn't win. It is what it is, and it's why most of us love sports. It sucks to be on the outside looking in, but it happens.

The final Harris, like coaches, is public. So we'll at least know who they are in the near future.

Now this would never happen but if I was the coaches of the Big Ten I'd vote OSU #1 FSU #2 and drop the SEC contenders from the poll completely. Which of course would bring the media to ask why? And i'd say to counteraxct the bulshit that is happening from SEC land against OSU. I didn't know how far they'd go so I didn't give them any points at all.
