2013 NBA Draft

Every year, all people talk about how this kid's a stud for next years
draft. Then, they play a year in college and we see what they're really like.

I remember when Harrison Barnes was a can't miss, sure-fire number one
pick after he plays a year. Well, not only wasn't he, he had to play another year. Last season, all the talk was about how Shabazz Muhammed was a can't miss player.

I'm not thinking about next years draft until I see some of those kids
play in college.

I trust that Grant will be smart with this draft and get at least two more
guys that will contribute alot of minutes in the future.

All I can say is it's good that I don't run the Cavs draft or else we would have Derrick Williams, Brandon Knight, and Andre Drummond over the past couple years. Looking back that wouldn't quite cut it compared to Irving, Thompson, and Waiters.

Everyone keeps saying that Porter isn't worth the #1 pick because he doesn't do everything great, he just does everything well. That was the same knock on Brandon Roy when he came out and he was a senior who had more time to develop his game in college. Without his knee issues he would have been a consistent all star.

He did everything in college and I think is the perfect fit for the team.

Noel's ceiling IMO is Tyson Chandler, and him and Tristan on the floor at the same time would be no offense.

Would love to take Mclemore but not sure if you can unless you deal waiters.

Dallas wants to trade this year's pick (13) for future assets in order to clear cap space to sign free agents. In 2015 the Cavs have at least two, and as many as four first round picks. We trade Dallas our pick at 33 this year and a first round pick in 2015, for pick #13 this year.

With the first pick we take the player with the most potential, not named Nerlens Noel. My guess at this point is, it will be between Porter, and McLemore. Which one we take will affect or pick at 19.

At 13 we take the Center with the most potential. Using the DraftExpress rankings as the gold standard; we will have a choice of, Mason Plumlee, KellyOlynynk, Steven Adams, Gorgui Dieng, or Jeff Whithy. If God willing, Andy stays healthy the draft pick has a few years to develop if need.

There are multitudes of SG, SF, and back up PGs waiting for us to choose between at the 19 spot. Here are my two scenarios for this draft:

1) SF Otto Porter 1) SG Ben McLemore

19)SG/SF Glenn Rice Jr 19) SF/PF Tony Mitchell
31) PG Nate Wollers 31) PG Nate Wollers

What are the thoughts on:
Trading #1 to Timberwolves for:
Derrick Williams & their #9 pick .. which they might also throw in PG/Alexey Shved and #26 pick

which we could package #19, 26, 31 and 33 for TBD

Is Williams the player we thought he'd be or it is the Timberwolves
Shved could be Irvings backup?!?!

With #9 we could pick up Zeller or maybe Len.. will either be there

Talking heads bring up Sergey Karasev and the Cavs ???? dunno but writeups look good

F no...derrick williams is not worth a #1 even if they throw in their #9...they would have to throw in everything you stated above and i bet Grant still might not even take it...and i actually like Shved alot

the only way the cavs do a deal with the wolves involving #1 and #9 is if either kevin love or nikola pekovic are involved. otherwise, it's a pennies on the dollar return for cleveland.

I don't know about Williams at this point. He doesn't seem like a player that is going to pan out in the NBA, but he might just be a victim of the franchise he is with. I haven't seen him play in the NBA.

I'd rather give up 2nd round picks for Robinson than move back 9 spots for Williams if we're looking at high draft picks that might not pan out. I don't think Len will be an option outside of the top 5.

I wonder what Danny Granger has left in the tank and what the Pacers would want for him. It looks like he only has 1 more year left on his contract so it wouldn't kill the long term flexibility. He would be a perfect fit for what they need if healthy and with his head in the game.

Trying to use 2nd rounders for Robinson is an idea I like.

Trading for Granger, I do not, unless the asking price is extremely cheap. While probably a strong presence in the locker room, his on court production leaves much to be desired lately.

4 straight years of decline in scoring and FG % (only 41.6% his last full season). More importantly though, he's 30 years old and recovering from a very tough injury, even tougher when you are not in your 20's anymore. If he gets a medical clearance though and the asking price is low, barring some other moves it's still something I could get behind but it needs more moves around it to be one I'm a fan of.

Nah, they can keep Derrick Williams.

Draft-wise, I'm really not even sure. I like Noel's defensive potential but
I think I like Len's all around game and size. I think Len would be a great fit
with Kyrie to run the pnr. He moves well and has good hands. He could learn
the pnr from Andy.

Porter fills a big hole and looks to be a good all around player. Then again, if we get a C first, then a different SF at 19, might we be better off ? At this stage, I just cant stand Alonzo Gee's inconsistency (mostly off).

I think my bottom line is regardless if pick 1 is Noel, Len or Porter. I'm taking the best available shooter at 19. I would love it if Caldwell-Pope stuck around until then, but he's been moving up the boards lately.

kind of hoping that the German dude Schroeder falls to the Cavs at 19.

don't need another point, but that guy looks better than his draft grade in like the 30 seconds of film i saw on him. . . .

would like to see him come off the bench to back up Kyrie.

i'd take Noel #1. don't over think it and hope the knee is OK. have the doctors go over it with a fine tooth comb, but if he gets past medical, take Noel with the #1 pick.

would love to see us move some picks and get the #13 out of Dallas too. we need lots of help still but are a borderline playoff team even with potentially drafting guys like Noel and Schroeder who won't help much the first half of the season.
