i wonder if augusta national was hoping that tiger would do the right thing and not accept their offer (two strokes).

best thing for tiger is to shoot over par tomorrow. it would be selfish, arrogant, and just plain wrong of him to win. moreover, he doesn't deserve the media attention focused on a narrow defeat, thereby placing an asterisk next to the real winner's name.

So it's 6 inches, maybe a foot, within a club length? I agree Tiger deserved a penalty, but if he was close enough to not be given a penalty until he opened his mouth, there is way too much grey area.

When there is a divot, drop directly over it. If the ball settles in the divot, then tough shit.

When you are a pro as long as Tiger has been you know the rule. He knew he took advantage of the drop, maybe not in the heat of the battle but in retrospect he agreed with the decision. If Roberto can be DQ'd for a mistake in scoring that he didn't commit (his playing partner wrote down the wrong score) then Mr. Woods should be held to the same standard.

This is not the first time this year that he has been penalized for an illegal drop either. Seems to me that if I have been penalized before I would damn make sure I knew what the rule meant....

So put it in the rule book. Why have any ambiguity at all?

Saying, "drop the ball at the nearest point of your last shot" implies something it shouldn't. Just have them drop directly over their previous shot.

Remove the word "nearest" and replace with "directly". There, fixed.

The word nearest is there in case you can't determine exactly where your last shot was.

Worst part of today was watching Freddy come unraveled. It's like rinse and repeat with Freddy every year....strong Thursday/Friday, doesn't hold up on Saturday. It's to be expected with his age (53), but he's still a top flight player for a few days a year.

It'd be amazing to see someone in their 50's win a major. I know it's coming at some point, but for it to be Freddy would be kick ass. The worst part of today was the fact that it wasn't even his back giving him probloems...his short game was a mess.

They spent the first 20 minutes discussing Tiger Woods' scorecard on "Live from the Masters" (on Golf Channel) Saturday after the round. Realizing who is the biggest golfer on Tour, this is kinda being beaten to death (by columnists and others).

Every time I hear Brandel Chamblee talk about Tiger, I keep thinking Tiger stole something from him or something.

THIS.

This is why I have a problem with them "revisiting" their earlier decision. They know that these guys are good enough to add or take away a few yards on their approach shots. They got the call from the viewer and deemed that Tiger had taken the appropriate drop. That's why I have a problem with him even being assessed the 2 stroke penalty for an illegal drop. The rules officials viewed the drop and made the decision that the drop was LEGAL.

Then Tiger says WHY he dropped where he did (which was viewed as a GOOD drop initially by the officials) and they all of a sudden say "Whoa, well that changes everything."

As a golfer I know that we are to police ourselves with regard to the rules, but this rule seems more designed for amateurs than pros. Pros are the ones who should be told EXACTLY where they need to drop their ball in order to eliminate just what Tiger did. He can take two yards off of his wedge shot whereas I don't know where ANY of my shots are going to end up.

The 'nearest' rules should be in place for me and the EXACT, most specifically worded rules should be in place for the guys on the Tour.

The rule for Tiger and the rest of the pros should read "you will drop your ball directly on to your divot" and then they play from there. They are plenty good enough to survive hitting out of a divot for Chrissakes.

He rebounded though. He's right there. I still think that Jason Day will come unglued today. If you ask me Cabrera is the one that I think has the best chance this afternoon.

I can't lie. I'm rooting for Tiger and I have absolutely no idea why. Couldn't tell you. I'm rooting more for Fred Couples and Snedeker, but I won't mind one bit if Tiger wins it and I couldn't begin to explain why.

YSU I'm right there with you. The guy was churning up the course when that ridiculous bad luck happened and 95% of old white golf purists jumped for joy. Then an opportunity to DQ him out of the even altogether was too much for them to let go - so there's an uproar when USGA says he did nothing wrong. Even saying he dropped it about 2 yards away, going "backward" from his possible divot was cheating to many people. Seriously. He or any other pro might be lucky enough to take the exact 2 yards off their shot maybe 2 in 10 times in that situation. He probably won't win this tournament now and no one else under this scrutiny could either. The Karma hit him when his ball ricocheted off the flag pole backwards into the water. If that doesnt happen he's leading this tournament and it's all over. He's the greatest frontrunner in sports history that has been examined and this year would be no different. The guy has spent his entire life trying to be the absolute best at something and people can't handle that when their own lives are mostly pathetic. It's pitiful the way our society does this stuff over and over again.

Today I'm rooting for three people. Tiger, Freddy and Brandt Snedeker. I bet on Tiger and Snedeker and Freddy has been my favorite golfer since the mid 80's. I like to see people just abuse the golf course and do amazing things. I loved watching Jack play and I hated Arnold Palmer with a passion - only because he was Jack's rival. I look back now and secretly loved that rivalry and it needed the back and fourth. Tiger really has no rival so there's basically just venom and vitriol towards him. I don't give a rats ass who he sleeps with or cheats on or how much money he makes. I like to see him destroy golf courses. Period.

Now, let's watch some golf!
