2012 US Open at the Olympic Club

Congrats to Webb.

Amazing how many players you can pass if you shoot 68-68 on the weekend at the US Open, or how far you can fall if you shoot 78-78. Webb and Jason Bohn were tied after fridays round at +5.

I guess its why they "play" the game.

Peace

I thought it was strange that the eventual winner, got about 5 minutes of attention during today's 6 1/2 hours of coverage:)

But did you see that incredible 30 ft putt that Tiger missed on 18 when he was 7 shots out of contention? Glad I did not miss that.

They showed just about every single one of his shots on the back nine once he climbed up the leaderboard.

Most of the attention was on Furyk and McDowell. The only people discussing Tiger on Sunday were the people that complain about people discussing Tiger when he's out of contention. NBC showed about 3 Tiger putts after he fell out of it. For a grand total of about less than a minute.

How about the coverage of David Toms who had one of the better rounds on Sunday and saw no coverage at all. Of course we got to see the little Texas bound amateur and occasionally Duffner's stellar over par rounds.

video of the squawker

Open, Has Trophy Ceremony Invaded By Squawking British Man
Webb Simpson seized his first major title on a U.S. Open Sunday rife with errors in play by all competitors. At times, it looked more like the Albert Achievement Awards than a professional golf tournament, but by far the weirdest moment came after play ended when a man garbed in Union Jack colors invaded Bob Costas's interview with the champion to make bizarre squawking sounds. Kudos to Simpson for the "Enjoy the jail cell, pal" ad lib.
We'll get an I.D. on the man as soon as we can, but here's the video you missed because you'd switched to the NBA Finals game long before this happened. [NBC]

Says the Tiger apologists. Tiger was out after the third hole. They didn't stop showing him until much later. He drives ratings. I get it. It does not make it any less annoying though.

The leaders didn't tee off until he was almost at the turn. They stopped showing him at that point.

I didn't bring the guy up. He was a no-show on the weekend so I don't get the interest. You brought him up. Not sure why other than to find some way to talk about him. Seems the people that hate him love talking about him more than the people that are entertained by him.

I agree with Matt that Tiger and Phil drive ratings whether they are in the hunt or not. They have huge galleries that follow them at every venue. I loved having them play with Bubba in the first two rounds. What a treat for the gallery. I think that Ricky, Hunter, Bubba, and Rory have the opportunity to grab the show and take off with it in the near future. Until that happens Tiger and Phil will still command big air time.

I used to get tired of all the coverage that Tiger got in the past, but now I actually would love to see him embrace his bad boy image. Go with the goatee and be the new man in black. He already has the cuss and club banging down pat, along with the evil gallery stare. Just do it Tigre!!!

I just wonder, how many temper tantrums they didn't show?

They all throw temper tantrums. It's a frustrating game. When Bubba won the Masters, he went off on some guy in the gallery. Furyk the other day just about lost it after a bad shot. It happens. Tiger has historically received more coverage so people notice his behavior more.

Isn't the US Open known for its toughness, the tourney where you win by going one under for an entire tourney - set up to test everyone unlike the Masters and the PGA which are won by double digit under par scores?
