2012 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Read it again. Could be nine one year and none the next two. Could be three each year. Could be any combination.

From the NCAA's release (BP link): "Reduction of football scholarships from 85 to 82 for each of the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years. This is an increase from the university's proposal of five initial scholarships spread over three academic years."

Maybe I'm not comprehending that correctly but that reads 3 per year to me.

Saw that as well. When the first five over three years were handed out it was up to the institution to dole them out as they saw fit. But appears you are right in that it will be three each year for three years. Sounds like it would have ended up that way anyways.

I'm not too worried honestly. Fick and UFM will tell these kids that a one year ban won't even be remembered in their legacy except that Buckeye nation will love them even more for sticking through it. Also, they'll be using it as motivation: we need to show the world that OSU isn't going anywhere, etc. These kids know that a one year bowl ban is worth the subsequent shots at a MNC.

When OSU loses a scholarship this means they loose it for one year only correct? For example they are not losing 9, four year scholarships, they are losing 9, one year scholarships? I don't even know if that makes sense.

I think that means we will have a total of 82 rather than 85 for the next 3 years.

I believe you are correct...basically as posted earlier the number of allowed scholarship players will be reduced to 82 for the next three years.

Seems to me that the most affected will be the walk-ons that receive a scholarship year as a reward. With the likely upcoming attrition, I don't think it will affect us all that much with recruiting.
