2012 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Every year folks try to calculate how many spots we have left - and every year they underestimate. I am confident that there are more than three.

i hope i am underestimating...would love to add jamal marcus to that list and even Winston but i consider him a real long shot...i cant imagine him wanting to come in and take a back seat or even red shirt...but its all about the visits...i think we deffinitly take a LB...IMO meyer did the same to cam williams as he did to caleb and told him to hold off on commiting at the time...i think he may be looking more at david perkins or marcus at the LB position over williams but i could be wrong on this...its just insane how awesome the past 2 weeks of recruiting have been...the only thing that could possibly kill this buzz is seeing that damn Yahoo and Tattoo thread re-appear at the top of the forum list in a week with a bomb that knocks us all back down to earth...here is to hoping that never happens

Did you factor in Taylor Graham, when you came up with the number 3?

no but i was generally going off a number i saw earlier on here and other insiders that was at 21-22...i basically didnt want to over-estimate the number...thats over-signing/SEC type stuff

Some of these uncommitted national kids have aspirations to announce at Under Armor or NLOID. We may be left hanging for a while.

Based on past experience if you see a new offer at a position where one or two offers are already outstanding, there is a good chance we have whiffed on somebody. But we may not know that till signing day.

Prepare for some pretty outlandish speculation.

If the rumor that Withers will be apart of the staff is true that will help our chances with Marcus being so that Withers coached North Carolina

so if realistically we have 3 more spots left, i would hope then we can land Diamond, Dodson and Spence...i am hoping we can squeeze in 1 more and have that be one of Caleb, Diggs, Cyrus or a Neal...that would be an amazing finish to this class right there

Perfect. Those are my 3 also. If there's a 4th we can grab, I'd want Diggs. This is freakin awesome!

ya diggs would be my preferred 4th also...then Jones/Caleb/Neal in that order (based only off film ive seen)...im actually really hoping we add another ATH to this class that could step in right away next year at WR in a harvin-ish type roll...but with meyer's type of offense next year, guys that struggled this year at WR and RB could blossom such as Philly Brown or jordan hall...i can see hall lining up like harvin did at UF under Meyer also...thats why i think if we don't get an ATH/WR to finish out the class im not going to be that dissapointed...i think it was after i saw one of diggs films and heard he was going to visit is when i got excited and just prayed he would get sucked into meyers tractor beam and then commit to us...could happen

If there are indeed 5-6 spots left my order of importance would be as follows:

You take 2 more offensive tackles. Hopefully Diamond and Dodson seal that up. Davidson and Kozan are also possibilities.

You take Noah Spence. Period.

You take Cyrus Jones if he wants on, same with Stefon Diggs. If both, then take both. If not, take one of either Davonte Neal or Joel Caleb.

You hold for a linebacker/Jameis Winston. I would prefer Jamal Marcus. If Winston wants in though, that changes all the numbers up

Given that depth at linebacker was one of the things that Meyer specifically mentioned needing to be addressed, I wouldn't be surprised if we are targeting two more LBs for the class.

It's been said before, but people pretending like oversigning isn't a huge advantage need look no further than this very situation to be proven wrong.

...and that's half the fun.

I know past all-star game and nloid announcements haven't really gone that great for us (yes, there's been exceptions), but this is a new staff with much different recruiting philosophy. I think we can chuck the past out the window.
