2012 Spring Game - Sat, April 21, 1:30 ET

Just finished watching DVR...

Thomas had a big day. Definitely too early to tell, but he seems to have a 'presence' He wants the ball...doesnt matter where you throw it, it is his. That is definitely not present in the overall group...TY Williams is the exact opposite. He frustration was palpable. When he caught the tunnel screen and pumped his feet four times in mud then got tackled, that was a kid with zero confidence.

I liked Dunn. I like the way Rod Smith flashed also. Smith welcomed Luke Roberts to big boy football on the TD run. Both showed very positive body language and were engaged. Both were deliberate in reads and getting downhill...especially knowing the zone read was a joke today with non-contact QBs.

OL...work in progress. Hard to make much of a judgment based on today.

Chris Carter was mentioned...right now he is a huge man with a quick first step. However, he showed out against a walk-on center with a simple bullrush that he used every snap. He stands up, exposes his chest and runs straight ahead. With that being said, he did show some surprising athleticism...

Hall, Barnett, Hankins, Williams, Simon, and Boren played very little or none.

Counted really quickly and there were something like 16-18 scholarship players who didn't dress. That's 1/4 of the team and extremely rare.

Have to give credit to the 4 linebackers who basically played every snap - Shazier, sabino, Roberts and Crowell.

It's clear that these guys are still spending their Christmas money on ink...Curtis grant and hale both have near half sleeves now.

Great write up, not only did Chris Carter show great athleticism, but also the best "Plumber's Crack" I've seen in many football seasons.

Lets not forget Epitropolous and Southward will be here in the summer.

Let's also not forget the O Linemen coming this Summer who have a good chance at getting into the 2 deep and helping with depth issues. We also have some great players at LB coming. That isn't even mentioning Spence, Adolphus, Armani, etc. I really think some of these players could shake things up when they arrive this Summer.

Also, consider Braxton said we saw maybe 30% of the Offense today. I am beyond excited for this Fall.

:oh:

Well I blew off my job today and I don't regret a second of it.
* I suck at planning. Didn't realize it was going to be as cold as it was but I did wear a rain coat. Waited through the entire lacrosse game in rain and wind to see my Buckeyes do some work. I had numb feet, numb legs, and a numb ass until I got into my car to head out of Columbus after the game.
* Crowd turnout blew me away. Anyone else think that Buckeye fans are excited for Fall?
* The one-on-one match ups Urban had at midfield were one of the most badass things I've witnessed in the Shoe. I was getting so pumped! I don't know how many times I've said "Urban is fucking awesome" this offseason.
* No John Simon? The coaches must have wanted to make it fair.
* Running backs impressed me a lot. I believe Urban when he says we're going to be a physical offense. Hyde is built like a fullback and Rod Smith is a brute. Rod in particular impressed me with the size/quickness combo but we know Hyde can take it to the house. Brionte is going to be very good in the future from what I saw.
* Mike Thomas made some truly awesome catches today. He's on a different level than the rest of the receivers.
* Yep, the offense didn't huddle a whole lot. I love what I saw today.
* I'm tired of typing so.....yea.
* I give the Spring Game 2012 an A-. Had the weather been more like it was Friday, it would be an A+.

... it looked to me that the O has enough guys across the board that can "make plays" ...

I think Jordan Hall, Carlos Hyde, Jake Stoneburner, and Braxton Miller are pretty damned good at making plays.
I agree we have guys who "can make plays." But we don't seem to have "explosive playmakers" of the caliber of Terry Glenn, Teddy Ginn and Beanie Wells: guys who are a serious threat to take it the distance every time they touch the ball.

Actually, Carlos Hyde may be closest to that status. And Brax, though he is not a burner, is elusive and clever enough to make any D-coordinator sleep fitfully. Just not the home-run threat that even Terrelle Pryor was (though overall I think Miller will be the better QB).

Anzalone, Hurst, Perkins, Marcus, Spence

This pic is not loading for me. Is it a problem with the picture or just me? Can anyone else see it?

Also does anyone have any ideas on carries and yards for Rod Smith? Just a ballpark figure would be nice, and sorry if it was already posted earlier.

Isn't it also called an Oklahoma drill? And Guiton is feisty, he took Brax out quick. Not exactly a fair matchup however, considering how laid back and unaggressively nice Brax seems to be

The oklahoma drill involves a ball carrier (the goal being to shed the block and bring down the running back), but its a similar concept
