2012 Spring Game - Sat, April 21, 1:30 ET

I'm not sure it's possible as a fan to learn a whole lot from a spring game, but I agree Thomas looked good, as did Dunn. Shazier and Roby continue to impress. Brax looked confident and put the ball generally in the right place from what I could see.

Don't see any explosive playmakers on O, so that's an important element to add in 2013.

Maybe, but it looked to me that the O has enough guys across the board that can "make plays" to make defenses very uncomfortable this season.
I think Jordan Hall, Carlos Hyde, Jake Stoneburner, and Braxton Miller are pretty damned good at making plays.

With Urban implementing a much better offensive scheme, kicking the butts of the O-line into gear, and molding the pile of clay that is Braxton, I think we could bury this conference in points.

I think Chris Carter may end up having a good career if he can lose 20-25 more pounds. He forced 2 sacks because he collapsed the line. I think he can be a very good back-up and goal line/short yardage guy.

Lets not forget Epitropolous and Southward will be here in the summer.

Hall, Barnett, Hankins, Williams, Simon, and Boren played very little or none.

IMO MSU is the toughest game and I don't see us losing at home. Wisconsin will be tough but IMO Meyer wants to kick BB ass up and down the field and he has a bye week to prepare.

Don't know if we're quite ready to "bury this conference in points"...but we'll definitely see improvement in the scoring category this year for sure.

Things I liked:

- Both offenses executed well and had consistent drives, despite using few QB runs. It took big plays from the defense to get them off the field (sacks, turnovers, penalties)

- Penalties were relatively low on both sides of the ball, especially for the OL. This is huge.

- Dunn, Smith and Hyde all hit the holes quickly and even when the LBs were there, still fell forward for positive yardage. They also all carried the ball securely.

- Corners and safeties going for the pick. Also lots of hard hitting by LBs and DBs on recievers and tight ends.

- Very effective use of the TEs in the passing game.

- Guiton's score on the zone read. Love that we have a backup QB who can play the same style as the starter and play effectively. Poor backup QB play has been an issue in the past, and I'll leave it at that.

- The backup (third team?) center looked good, and neither QB had trouble handling shotgun snaps. I don't recall any that were even off.

- Carter is a DT. He's going to thrive on that side of the ball in time.

- Drew Basil is becoming an Ohio State kicker. I like the pressure situations UFM is creating for him.

- Michael Thomas. More of that in the fall, plz.

Things which gave me pause:

- Coverage was loose. Lots of guys running open and catching passes, including walk-ons.

- Gray team had serious QB protection issues early on. OL depth is still a concern.

- Not much to see in the return game so far.

- Both QBs forced passes into double coverage that they shouldn't have. Decision-making has improved, but needs to get better.

- Buchannan's punting wasn't exceptional.

- Lots of solid plays and players, but no explosive playmaker (outside of Miller) in space emerged.
